Oil change
My X6 has 2,000 miles on the clock.
I was thinking of getting an oil change done at the dealer now much like the M 1200 mile service break in. Thoughts?

While this is not a requirement, it is highly recommended that you get the oil refreshed, when an engine is new, small particles come free and it is better to get them out, instead of waiting for 30.000 km ( +-20.000) for the first service.
Mine will get an oil change, that is sure... |

Just a waste of money as the Oils today last very well and the filter systems are great.
Todays engines are ok for the 20K service intervals in any case it's under warranty for 3 years. |

The idea of an early oil change is a leftover from the 1970s. Engine materials and machining accuracy are way, way better than they were back then, so very little wear occurs compared with what used to happen when an engine was new. Witness the fact that BMW no longer gives specific break-in instructions. And as johnbmw6 says, oil and filters are greatly improved, too. Changing a true (ester-based) synthetic oil every 3,000 miles or so is plain nuts.
On the other hand, if it helps you sleep at nights, it isn't going to hurt anything except your wallet. |

I have a 335 convertible and did an oil change at 7k. Cost 150.00 at my dealer and they will do the regular schedule one at 15k no charge. Car ran 5% better afterward, seemed to rev eaiser and gas mileage went up 2 mpg. So I will do the same in the n54 engine in my x6. Cheap
