Good question. I also have a car w.o AS and will now e buying a truck with it. I do like the stiffness in my current car-- but I think my wife will be happier. How difficult will it be to shift from my E93 non AS to X6 Active steer. Anyone have one car w/o AS and one with it? How have you managed?
Thanks,

If you just got production number yesterday, I think you can still add AS. Contact your CA asap.

AS is $1550 option for X5. You can get it for free for X6.

Thanks,
I switch from my 1M to the X6 on a somewhat regular basis (ok, it is has been raining a lot here so not so much lately). First off, to me, the steering on the 335xi loaner I had was much stiffer than the 1M. So much so, you noticed it every time you drove it (once up to speed you did not notice it). I think that might have bothered me. However, going from the X6 to the 1M really is not a big deal. PS - I was VERY concerned about this.

Very few people with a recent (non 2004/2005) active steering vehicle don't like it. Yes there are some, but they are few and far between. You will find people saying "I wanted the true steering feel of the BMW". Here is where it gets weird.
On my old 550 (2006), I drove it with AS and without AS back to back. YOU COULD NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN STEERING FEEL.
In test driving the X5 without Active Steering however, the steering was so stiff (and almost loose) that I could not imagine driving the car day to day and enjoying it. In test driving the X6 without Active Steering, it did not seem half as bad - still, nothing compares to driving the X6 with Active Steering. YES, the steering is easier to turn (the 550 was not like that) - however, it is very enjoyable and you still feel the road perfectly. You just turn the wheel a lot less at slow speeds (which is nice in a big vehicle like the X6 - it makes it feel smaller). It takes nothing away from the "BMW feel". Go drive a 5-series RWD if you want to experience steering without BMW feel. I'm positive if dealers were able to have X5s and X6s in stock with Active Steering (they can't) more people would order it. It is that good of an option.

Hmm... that could be cool. My wife and I will be in Germany together at the end of June. Really unfortunate that ED doesn't work for X6...

Because of a last minute glitch, My wife was not able to do the pick up in Germany with me. Either she will pick up the cat t te dealership w/me or we'll casually walk over to Long term Parking and she will see the new ride. Both would work.. but now that I think about it... I actually prefer the second... so lets see if they get me the goods earlier.

@ Doug- you should have AS tattoed on your chest! Looking forward to trying it out. One question... how can the steering be both stiff and loose?

Thanks!

Ok, I do really like AS

Let me clarify non AS X5 steering.
It is hard to turn and imprecise. At least for me it was. I really noticed it at the performance center - so maybe those trucks were just completely beat, but in regular driving (test drives) it was very difficult to turn the wheel. As noted, my experience with non AS X6s was NOT similar.

As I am probably reordering my car since the dealer ordered incorrectly, I am planning on adding AS. My concern is in the learning phase. I have a tight fit garage and overcorrecting would be very bad. Would you still recommend the AS for an X6 50i with tight parking requirements and multiple drivers? Thanks.

There is no learning phase. It is seamless. My wife goes from her Mini Clubman, to her MDX, to my X6 all without ever commenting or noticing the Active Steering. You won't over-correct - I promise.

what happens then- do they just build the car and sell to walk-ins or do they cancel it all together? Well.. if its the former, either someone will post or you'll see my Midnight Blue once I post pictures in July... (or when it comes)

If I refuse the car, (still debating actually) then the dealer will sell it to someone else. I am sure it will sell before it even gets here. I am torn. I have no patience at all and want it all now. So it is a choice between getting it sooner or getting everything I want.

We even are considering making it a 50i instead of the 35i I originally ordered.

However, I am at the moment freaking out that someone could slide into "my" car and even possibly the PCD date I have now, without the wait I've had.

I just asked my wife - do you notice the steering on the X6 when you come from your Acura or the Mini? She looked at me puzzled and said "the only thing I notice is the acceleration"

Just went to from Order Documented to Production Begins

I guess the wait is now 2-3 weeks?

I got a little annoyed because I did not see the Active Steering listed! I called up the dealership and they printed out the Vehicle Inquiry: Design/MSRP and faxed it to me. It had all options that I wanted listed. Anyone else have this happen? The Design MSRP had my VIN & Production Number.

After hearing from "Love_My_X6" I am a little nervous. I am now looking forward to AS...

Does anyone have the Head-Up Display? Is it intrusive? Helpful? Let me know what you think. Also we are considering the Rear entertainment for future infants... not sure if it is worth it, but comments welcome.

Thanks for your help,

Got my Vert Serviced. Before pick up, I stopped by the show room to see the Black on Oyster X6 50i. Three seats in the back. Observations:
The headroom in the back is very limited... particularly the center. I am 5'11" and it was a little uncomfortable to sit erect! If I lounged or slouched back with my head against the head rest, it was cool. I could not image any of my 6'3" friends being all that comfortable in the back.. I read about it.. but it was still suprising.
- Car had the fresh MStyle rims. Love the way that looks.. I was hoping to see the base package rims that I got (need the all weather with baby on the way)
- LED lights were not there... so unfortunately I could not see those either
- Love the new BMW smell
- The Black back of the front seats really stood out with the Oyster. I am glad I got the Saddle as the contrast will not be as drastic.
-The "grey" ceiling was darker than expected... didn't really stand out.

The car was fresh... It was almost like the color didn't matter... it is a beautiful ride.

Oyester is fresh, but we like the fact that the car is one color inside with beige and not two toned (as with ever other color except all black-- which I don't like)... SO that rules out leather dash.

Will also get:
LED
Premium SOund
3 rear seats (A MUST-- could not buy a 4 seated SUV, no matter how much I liked it!)
Cold Weather
Running Boards and Soft close doors.

I love the 20" M Package rims, but really not sure about driving in snow. For those who have them, do you also have kids that you transport? SO even though I LOVE the M Package rims, I do also like the 19" stock on the 50i. I don't need all that horse power in NYC.. I just got t-boned by a woman making an illegal u-turn and my 328 has been in the shop for 1 month. My wife is 4 mos currently and her side got hit, so I vowed to drive slow and careful-- 35i is good enough.

Question: How the hell can I get the 50i stock rims on the 35i and the chrome grill and trim that are on the 50i base package!? The "Build Your Own" site has black trim for every model except the 50i non-Sports Activity or MPackage. Difficult to justify $9K more for nicer trim, chrome grill & rims!!!!

Do i have a shot?
I found an actual image of the X6 in Midnight Blue. It was on Cars.com at an Atlanta Dealer.

I do think you saddle interior will look good with it. Maybe even better with the dark exterior than if it were lighter than expected.

When I get mine next week I will take some photos in different lighting. This car is actually how I was expecting it to look in bright sunlight. I also think the photo darkens it as the "bright" spot that you see where the sun hits it will move as your view changes. I think it will look more like the BMW image in low light. I am loving the look.

I was caught up on interior/exterior until I realized that I was not getting a Convertible this time around. It was crucial then because you would see both. I ended up getting what I thought would pop on the outside (though Red ultimately was a bit too much for me) and pop on the inside... Saddle has always been my favorite inside color so I went with that.

It would surprise me that the color would get lighter in darker light. I expected the sun to draw out the green ones that are in the brochure.. but that isn't happening in the pict. Looking forward to seeing yours, though the point is moot.. (smile). My Production has already begun. As I mentioned above, the Black exterior looked great in person, so I expect any color to look nice on the X6. If I get the blue that is advertised.. then I will be ecstatic.

I found another set of actual photos... This from a dealer in FL. Partly cloudy and different photographer have the color still dark but less black.

If I had an extra 10-15K this would have been sweet! midnight blue 50i with M-sport.
