Just installed Continental ExtremeContact DSW tires on 2011 X6 5.0

All I can say is wow. I really haven't had a chance to push them yet, but the sound difference is astonishing. They are so much quieter, it felt like I was in another car.

I went with the staggered setup 315/35/20 on the back and 275/40/20 on the front. I've been waiting months for the 275's to get back in stock. Tire rack couldn't give me an ETA, but discounttiredirect.com had 2 and I snatched them up. $940 for the set, plus installation.

I did the same on my '11 X6M within about a week of buying it.

I totally agree.....a noticeable difference in the compliance (more) of the Conti's and I didn't notice any negative effect on the handling....but I'm not racing it either.

And.....you get a 50,000 mile pro-rated tread wear warranty to boot !!!!!!!!!

Enjoy,
Dave

I cannot wait to change out my tires I hate them. Those will be the ones I use. They're so cheap compared to the stock tires on the X6. Twice as cheap

Not sure why you are comparing them to the Bridgestone Dueller RFT. That is not what came on my X6 50i. Mine came with the Dunlap DP SPORTMAXX RFT and they are about twice that price.

I changed to the Conti DWS as well about 8,000 miles ago and they are great!!!

I showed that because my 2011 50i came with the bridgestones. Notice the little yellow banner that says OE Tire" :-)

Interesting that your X6 came with much crappier OEM tires than my X6. These are what came stock on mine and are about $2000 to replace on tire rack. Not worth the money and why I switched to the Contis

+1 on the DWS tires. My cost delta was much hirer. ABout $1,000 compared to Dunlop runflats which were about $2,000 a set.

Very quiet and compliant ride.

I have about 5k miles on them so far and no complaints.

For the difference in price, I will be using the Bridgestones for two reasons:

Softer compound on the rubber. I like the grip these tires offer for the extreme cornering I like to do.
I feel RFT are a plus for a couple of reasons. I would prefer to be able to get off the freeway in case of a puncture. Also, it could protect the rim from any damage, while you could experience damage with a puncture while using non run flats. I have the spare tire option also, but if I need to, I know I can get by with the run flats until service or a good place to place the spare on, is available. Think of all the different scenerios of when you could get a flat, and the RFT in my mind, are very nice to have.

I am guessing, but maybe BMW had Bridgestone develop these tires because the Dunlops were too expensive, and the tread life was also poor.

The Dunlops would be very expensive to use, while the Bridestones are reasonably priced, have decent tread life, and are also RFT. They would not work in a Winter situation though, as others have pointed out.

I really wish Michelin would develop a tire. I think they have a front tire that would work, but no rear tire currently.

The tread rating on the Diamaris is worse than the Dunlop.

Hi Fellas,
To all those that have changed to the Continentals, could i ask if you have had any troubles regarding sensors, eg, tyre pressure monitoring etc ?. Im thinking that this is the tyre route im going to take. These RFT seem to be spoiling this car for me, regards, SMON.

I have an 09 X6 35i....

I have a 4Runner for heavy winter driving here in Ohio.....but i was wanting an all-season tire to put on as my dunlop's are loud now that they are wearing down (good for only what...like...20K miles).

I see you guys are recommending the Continental DWS, non runflat tire.

Would you recommend the Pirelli Scorpion Snow/Ice RFT? Or should I just get an all-season tire???

For me i rather have dedicated performance for summer and dedicated winter fo snow. The car is too much fun in the warm weather to go all season and I rather have the margin of safety in the winter. I think that if you only want one tire then the Continental ExtremeContact DSW is the way to go. If you go with a winter tire you really dont want to run a 315 on the rear it will just ride on top of the snow..........Steve
