x5m mid pipe mod

Stock x5m/x6m mid pipes

compared to m5/m6 mid pipes

I've recently added down pipes and the exhaust note is a bit louder but im looking for a bit more w/out changing out the stock muffler.

I've heard a stock m5/m6 exhaust and its pretty aggressive but not too much. Upon reviewing both the x5m and m5 exhaust i realized the x5m has an additional muffler and possibly cat on the mid pipes. To compare on a E90/92 m3 the car also comes w/ 4 cats, 2 primary and 2 which are normally replaced with X pipes for 2ndary cat removal which increases exhaust note but also performance.

Akrapovic's midpipe design

Supersprint midpipe design

I may start replacing one at a time to see what a good compromise is. Anyone else mod their mid pipes ? any decent exhaust shop should be able to do it for a reasonable price

humm....interesting, there is a forum member selling his full oem exhaust, but the mid-pipe looks different than the diagram you have. Take a closer look at the resonator from his fs linkhttp://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=676203

I took my resonators out for $120 at a local shop. They didnt really add much sound. Maybe a hair louder. Everything else is stock.
