What should I look for in a 2011 x5m

Looking into getting an x5m. Been looking for awhile haven't found anything worth buying. Found one at a bmw in jersey with horrible engine noise.

Besides the obvious what are things to look for?

I read in checking injectors to see if they were replaced also water pumps since there are two. What else?

When does serpantine belt have to be replaced?

Do these models suffer from oil leaks from valve cover and oil pan like other models?

Check if driveshaft recall has been done.

Check the brakes, if they need replacing you are looking at spending at least 2k in parts for all 4 corners, if using factory parts.

Also, I believe there were some infotainment upgrades on the 2012 model, just something to keep in mind.

Also make sure the rear airbags and the pumps are good, all the electronics obviously, if it's in the range for Takata airbag recalls, fuel pump recall, vent hoses over the engine leaking oil, power tailgate issues, sunroof operation, alignment and any clunks, I had to replace a headlight ballast and the front swaybar links 2 months after buying my 2010, and still need to fix tailgate issues that I knew about when I bought it, oh and the coolant expansion tank sprung a leak as well, just fixed that today.

There is a laundry list, but in cascading order, below are priority items:

1) Recall on secondary coolant pump + front driveshaft
2) Latest version (Index12) injectors and hopefully changed not too long ago as Index12 is not maintenance-free either
3) Hopefully new plugs and coil packs
4) Maintenance, i.e. is the owner doing regular enough oil changes, and whether the adjacent oils were regularly changed (tranny, x-case, front and rear diff, rear torque vectoring oils)
5) rear air bags

This is my 2cents, if you are somewhat a gear head and stay ahead of the maintenance needs of this truck, the E7X Ms have been relatively easy to manage!

Dealership??

Besides the front rotors brakes are decently priced ... changed rear rotors/pads for less than 300...

Front rotors cost 600 last time I checked that’s with the drilled F85 rotors.

Rock auto has good decently priced parts most of which is same as OEM at half the price.

If the brakes deter you.. honestly, you might want to look for more rational choices like a x5 35i that don't have the same M tax on parts.

I love my 35i. Besides, it was just deemed to have the perfect amount of HP: https://jalopnik.com/i-have-determin...wer-1821531670

I wanted to swap the 335 for a x5m but doesn't seem logical. X5 35i won't be sporty enough for me. I'll wait a bit and get the x5m and keep the 335
