X5M tow eye cover stolen - need part #

So....some dum fuk decided to steal one of my tow eye covers. I cant really understand how anyone would have the decency to do that, but the funniest part is that I have a very rare Individual paint color, so whoever stole it wouldn't be able to use it anyway. What is wrong with people these days?

Now I have to go through an annoying process of getting a set of covers, getting them painted with my color, etc.

Does anyone know the part number for these covers? I found quite a few on eBay, but every auction description states that they don't fit a 2012 X5M.

Not exactly worth stealing!
There's a better than even chance that it fell out.
I know it's tethered, but it could have caught on something and ripped free.

EK dont jump to conclusions. I had the same experience with my 2012 X5M and thought the same thing Why would someone want to rip the tow cover. The dealer convinced me that the covers are prone to "fall off' and replaced it with two new covers (one as a spare for the "next time") and both were painted to match the truck color. No charge. My rig had 15k. Check with your SA and point out there are no marks indicating forced removal of the cover. Good luck!

I saw mine fall off in my driveway twice before I eventually lost it somewhere else. It was from the act of removing and putting the cover back on. The friction caused from removal and replacing rubs down the contacts points causing the cover to not fit snugly after awhile. I suggest you get extras if you plan on using the tow hooks a lot. Each set comes with a left & right cover.

Part # 51117205545

Around $21-23 (not msrp, no paint)

Granted, this may be a random act of God, but there are several reasons that make me think otherwise. First, I live in NYC, where most (and I do mean MOST) people have no respect for other people's property and engage in theft and vandalism at will. Second, I have no less than 4 people that own late model X vehicles (a 2012 X5, two 2011 X5s and a 2011 X6) and their tow hook covers never fell out.

I do appreciate your tip though. I am shocked that your BMW dealer actually did something for free though, especially since it involves both parts and labor. I will try to call the dealership and use the same theory (i.e. it fell out because if was poorly designed and prone to falling off). I am not holding my breath, so lets see what happens.

I think it fell out. I only say that because mine did while it was parked. I noticed and played with it for a bit to get the fitment tighter. Good to go since.

Anything is possible there are a lot of jerk in this world ha ha . I was in bayside two weeks ago and I came out after dinner to find my exhaust tail pipes were missing. I know they were there when I parked because I cleaned my x5 a few hours earlier. Nothing surprises me anymore!

I have lost both due to falling out. They are a problem. Have found them in my driveway and replaced them, just to have them fall out again somewhere else.

I have brand new painted black ones. When I lost one, I bought a set and had them all painted. The cost to paint one was the same as painting a set.
Then I never lost one again.LOL

I have two late model X5s as well and only my M has the cover fall out. I noticed it hanging one day after a short slow drive, i thought if I had went on the hiway it likely would have been long gone.

2012 X5M and cant keep them in for more than 6 months. Not sure if it is temperature related or something else. Has anyone found a fix that keep them in?

Why not coat the inside with a film of clear silicone and snap the cover shut and for extra insurance use a Q tip to add a little around the edge and after it set up it should hold the cover in place. Just an idea

When I replaced (bought and painted) the tow covers myself I coated the inside thicker with paint. The result was that it had a tighter fit. They haven't fallen out or loosened since.
