I didn't notice any difference in engine noise. Car runs fine as it should.

Main reason for me to use 5W-50 was to help with oil consumption, but looks like it didn't help much. After about 1200 miles low engine oil warning came. With 5W-40 it was burning 1 quart about every 900 - 1000 miles.

What woried me a bit was that the old oil was black, almost like a N63 was a diesel engine. And i was changing that oil after about 5000 miles, like i allways do. Never notice so dark - black oil color before ....
If anything, thicker oil will make it consume more oil. It makes it tougher for the oil rings to scrape the oil off the cylinder walls. If your valve seals is gone, no molasses oil will help either.
But damn that is some thick oil:
Mobil 5-50 viscosity
40 c = 104
100 c = 17

Mobil 0-40 viscosity
40 = 70
100 = 12.9

Cold start on the 50w is like slug

Thicker oil rarely helps with oil consumption, switch back to 5w-30 and use some at-205. If your seals aren’t to far gone this will cut consumption. I’ve had goof luck with it as a temporary fix. https://www.amazon.com/ATP-AT-205-Re...2827956&sr=8-2

If your cylinders are scored which often happens with high oil consumption, you’ll need to have the block bored and pistons replaced.

Never heard that thicker oil will make it burning more.

Ofcourse 5W-50 will be thicker than 0W-40. But 5W-40 i was using before was as thick (feel by hand) as 5W-50.
Plus this new 50 oil should have more additives that my old one.

Yeah, i was thinking about using some re-seal additive if thicker oil would not help. Which as it seems it didn't.
Shame i can't get that at-205 anywhere here, and from Amazon is like 40 $ shipping to here. I'll look for some alternatives, that i can get.

And probably will switch back to 5W-40 BMW spec oil in next oil change.
