Dunlop Sport Maxx SP worn after 4000 miles!!?
Hello everyone,
I have a wear question about these 20" Factory Sport Tires. I bought my 2011 X6 as a CPO and have driven it 4000 miles. Now my rear tires are literally bald, I mean no tread what so ever. Meanwhile my front tires are wearing normally. I use the ride as my daily driver and have been told by my local service center that this is unusual wear. Meanwhile, my purchase dealership is telling me that this is normal and that they will not cover this. Has anyone had any issues with these tires or alignment? Thanks, Latorre

Very weird. Do you think that your purchase dealership could have sold the car with re-tread or otherwise worn, defective tires? They should have been new tires, I think.

These Dunlops have absolutely the worst tread wear
OP car probably had bare minimum live in these left, so after additional 4K they are toast Get Bridgestone H/P Duler, they are default sport summer tires on Ms and Sport X6s And they half the price of the Dunlops |

I am around 10.5k miles on original X6M Bridgestone Dueller H/T tires. Noticing wear for sure but I think another 5k or more is not unrealistic.

The Bridgestone RFT's are crap.... The wear rate is extreme.. you get a nice tread pattern for the first 5k miles then cupping and a louder and louder interior volume as they continue to wear down.. To the OP - those tires of yours are NASCAR ready! Holy %^$&! A CPO vehicle is supposed to have 90% tread left as minimum... Nearly every BMW dealer throws new tires on a CPO vehicle... I cannot imagine how you got down to racing slicks in only 4k miles? Do you have a 16 year old son with access to your keys? Have you been out of town recently?
Any RFT is going to wear quickly. They are very heavy.. They have stiffer sidewalls and support the car under load/cornering... I recently swapped out of my Bridgestones (the road noise was excessive) and into non-RFT's.. .what a world of difference.. I can hear myself think now inside the car.. I can hear the exhaust tone. The non-RFT's will wear well into 40K-50K miles and they are 50% less expensive.. Unless you do extreme driving I would strongly consider getting off your RFT's... |

Falken fk453 nice soft, quiet tire. $200 bucks for the 315's we need out back.
I found a local guy with 9/32 dunlops for 150 each so I picked those up. My inside tread is worn thing about unmount swapping sides to get some more miles. |

Thanks guys!
Thanks guys! I'm taking this ride to the dealership tomorrow at 6:30am. I'm so pissed that I'm going to sit there until they service my car. 4k is ridiculous in Amy Name Brand tire.
From what I'm getting you fellas are recommending non-RFT? and I should swap out to a set of Bridgestone's?

I've had two cars now with the Bridgestone Duelers. A 2011 Q5 without RFTs and my current 2013 X6 with RFT. In both cases tread wear has been excellent, however they are noisy tires.
If you can switch to non-RFTs, check out Michelin Latitudes (not sure if they come in X6 sizes though). Enjoyed those tires a lot on the Q5 when it came time to replace the Bridgestones. Quieter tire. Continental ExtremeContact tires may be an option as well. No firsthand experience with those though. |

The outcome
Well fellas...the rear wheels were definitely misaligned and was the cause for the premature wear.
UNFORTUNATELY, that is not covered under the Tire and Wheel Protection and I got stuck with a $1269 bill after parts, labor and what-not. However, believe me when I say that I am going to battle this with the dealership that sold me a CPO in this condition.

Unfortunately a lot of people think that buying a "CPO" is going to cover everything wrong with the vehicle, when in fact, it only covers defects in parts and little else. As for a CPO tire requiring 90% tread...ha, really? 4/32 is more like it, and if the dealer can get away with not changing them, they'll do it every time to save the money because no one is checking up on them.

Conclusion: the folks and BMW understood and had my back. I had to fight and bring up some very valid points to them. But in the end, I got the tires and the alignment.
Thanks for the support and advise!!
