DashCam catching the action

On Weds i was t-boned by a lady running a stop sign in Brooklyn NY.
Dash cam caught everything. The lady who hit me was constantly saying i came from nowhere the whole time before the police arrived. I told her she ran the stop sign and she and her friends kept denying she did...... Showed the video to the officers and they were totally impressed by the video and agreed that she ran the stop sign. Officers wanted to show the video to the lady, and the lady started to say i was driving so fast....i quickly replied i was going 30mph as stated by the gps speed on the video. Her husband started yelling at her in spanish and told her not to look at it anymore........definitely get one of these installed in your cars guys. I have a BlackVue hardwired.

now my x5 is at MAC....John said the car is repairable. Now waiting for her insurance...

video here ( i cant get embed to work..)

Sorry to see that mate. But what a relief you had a dashcam to record everything. I saw the video on YouTube, really good quality. Nothing more satisfying than setting the record straight when an idiot is clearly lying to the police.

PS: what's up with the random dog on the street?

I'm sorry for the accident but I'm glad no one was hurt. With that said, that video is badass! Where can I get one? Can you post a pic of how/where it's mounted? Thanks!

I have one of those. There are frequent groupbuys on massdrop.com for this particular brand BlackVue. Check out their website, they have some great units. Even one that has two camera's for front and back.

However, it sucks the power off circuitry doesn't exist internally, and you have to buy a separate box. Or wire in a relay.

In the OP's signature, it seems like he has the BlackVue DR500GW-HD which is quite a bit cheaper than the massdrop version (which is front and rear cameras).

thanks everyone. Im mostly glad my wife wasn't in the car.

I heard the 2 channel version is not as good. you lose some res or something...not too sure, but you should do some review searches on google to find out. When i was in the market for it i was considering the 2 channel one, but something swayed me from it.

You probably saw the 1MP spec on the rear, and were scared off. That's still 720p, thats still 30fps, thats still plenty to make out most details, short of the individual hairs on a person's head...

I'm pretty content with just the single camera, but at the same time am intrigued by the rear unit if you got read ended perhaps, or rear-ended and the driver drove off... Being tailgated, road-rage, etc. There are strong reasons to get the 2ch setup.

another was i thought the rear is mostly for "engine off/parking" security, which you have to run another connection to a extra battery. if someone rear ends you while you are driving, it is in most cases that person's fault..

if you decide to get it, post up some pics!

Interesting, I did not know Garmin made these. I had a quick look and it looks like a nice unit, although it's one you'll probably want to remove when you're not driving around. I could not find a video with example footage though.

Oh, thats the brand new one! I think I saw that announcement at SEMA or CES. It was pretty slick for what it is.

How good a deal you got on it shouldn't make a difference at this point. You are entitled to the fair market value of your vehicle - not what you paid for it. The best measure of fair market value is what others like it are selling for, so find sale listings for ones that are similarly equipped, and demand the insurance company give you what you are owed. Put enough of those listings in front of them and they will buckle.

Ouch. That looks like a hard hit. Glad that you are okay.

I feel like dashcams are a must nowadays. It's always your word against the other drivers. I hate how people lie about accidents, but they do.

Here's footage from my accident last year when I got sideswiped:
