YES!!! Had it with my 08 4.8 X5. Was told by service manager a little squeaking was normal?

Now have it with my 10 X5M. Was told same thing. They said it is the sensor on the brake pad. Its getting louder and louder. I hope someone has a solution

It is a normal "issue" with these cars. Part of having high performance brakes mean they will squeal like pig's in the cold. My b8 s4 does the same but not nearly as obnoxiously as the M does. I actually just had my pads replaced because the squeal was beyond obnoxious and embarrassing especially when people don't know about cars and just think somethings wrong with my 100k truck. Got 28k miles out of those pads. It helps to bed the brakes (its winter now so not the best time to do this, but I found 2-3 consecutive hard stops from high speed ~120 to 20 helped get rid of the noise for a while. I mainly hear it when I'm backing out of the garage slowly now, used to happen when creeping to a stop as well but not anymore (again only when it is very cold).

No brake pad squeak here. If the sensors were touching the rotors you would have a brake pad warning light come on. Akebono euro ceramic pads are what i used. Good luck.

When I had my M3, I had it in the dealer for this exact same thing, and in the end the final word was that M brakes are always going to have some noise (he casually mentioned the X5M brakes were the noisiest of them all).

One thing I found was that the harder you use the brakes, the quieter they get. For me, a few romps around town and hard braking at stop lights got them much, much quieter. I guess they're made to be used.

On my 2012 X5M I am about to hit 31K with the original pads and have minimal at most issues with any brake noise. Every once and a while I hear a faint squeal when backing into the garage but nothing much at all.

I just had my rear pads replaced yesterday due to squeaking bad in reverse. At first when I scheduled I got the same song and dance it is normal for them to squeak a little. So I asked, I have been driving this car for a year and a half with no noise, so was that abnormal. Brought it in and they replaced them.
When I left the shop they squeeked louder and I brought it back and the guy told me to stomp on them hard and it will stop. Well I did and it stopped.
Not sure why rears went bad before the fronts??

A tiny squeal when backing up. Otherwise not a sound from mine.

Definitely not the sensor. It relates to the pad formulation generally. If it is intermittent it could be temperature related (cold). The pads could be worn out, maybe uneven wear.

Generally the standard OE formulation is quieter mainly because hundreds of hours would have been spent trying to make it quiet. Not always successful.

My brakes were nice and quiet until recently 30K+ miles. Don't make noise when cold or backing up, only once it warmed up. The squeal comes when the brakes are used lightly coming to a stop, don't make noise when stomped on hard. Just very annoying.

30K miles is 48K Km's. Definitely possible that they are near the end. I changed mine at 50K km's (because the screen said so) but admittedly they had another 10K km's or more on inspection when they were taken out.

Problem solved!

The squealing noise was driving me crazy.

Noise free brake squeal from Bavarian autosport. $9.95. Applied to the back of the pads and the piston. Noise free now, it's amazing!

I tried several brake squealing compound prior but didn't help, the Noise free really works!!!

This thread has brought back my sanity. Thought I was doing something wrong. Just hit 31k miles. Been doing this since I got the car at 25k.
