I liked Jeff Steel at Passport BMW. You will find that many BMW folks on other forums rave about him. He treated me well. His price was awesome compared to other dealers I contacted. Just have the last 7 of your VIN handy.

Garage List
2011 BMW X5 35d  [0.00]
Of all issues on this relatively reliable BMW series, the most common seem to be related to emissions. Just a lot of electronics and components that may clog, overheat, etc, etc. That's just my observation after 2.5 years on these forums.

Good thing is that many states follow California standards that mandates 100% coverage for emissions/exhaust until 75K miles. Some federal emissions mandates apply until 80K miles.

When I was deciding about extended warranty, my main concern was the emission system. Once I was informed that my state mandates coverage until 75K miles, I felt $3000 for extended warranty was not justified, since it will only cover me for 25K miles (from 75K to 100K).
I am also planning to keep the vehicle way past 100K (really like this beast), so I am just setting away those $3000 for any repairs.

Paying for extended warranties make complete sense if you will own the vehicle until the warranty runs out. My friend had a 2008 X5 and he decided to roll the dice and not buy the warranty. He lost BIG. He ended up having an extensive oil leak and his A/C went out. Within a year, he had spent 2x of what the extended warranty would have cost him. He got so scared, he eventually sold it and got a '13 Z71 Tahoe.

Just one major mechanical issue will cover the cost of the warranty. A transmission, engine, turbo, etc. Over 3-5years, it's chump change over time; especially for the peace of mind.

My 11 x5d I nearing 50k as well. I bought the extended warranty for my. 08 335 but am not going to buy one for my x5d.

Reliability has been rock solid so far on the d. It's the best vehicle I've owned and plan on keeping it for at least 3 more years.
