Base Audio vs Premium Sound Pkg
Hi guys,
I am waiting until end of feb to place my order for 12' X5d. Just want to see fellow x5 35i/d owners are happy with their base 6 speakers or is it worth it to upgrade to the premium sound pkg (10 speakers i believe?). My current E92 has the base speakers system (yet it has 10 speakers). Thanks in advance for your input.

Get the Premium Sound.......
At the least, you, as in "YOU" need to listen to both. If you don't get that done, then... Get the Premium Sound! especially if your buying...can anybody say resale! |

I didn't upgrade and I don't think the "base" system is all that bad. It's plenty loud, good clarity and has everything I need. I'm not an audiophile, though. I like good music, but I always upgrade other things on vehicles instead.

I had the base 10 speaker system in my E92, and figured that quality would carry over to my X5. BIG MISTAKE !!! I wish I would've asked this question. The base system is garbage. Nothing like the E92. Don't make the same mistake I made.

It's much easier to make a sound system sound good in a tight, confined space like an E92 vs. the cavernous volume of an X5. |

True , but for some stupid reason, I thought the X5 would also have at least 10 speakers , amongst them subs. It was my fault for assuming. Hopefully, this fellow member won't make that same mistake.

get the premium. from 09 base and now 11 premium. no doubt about it. the premium hands down all the way. also, the bass are tight and the clarity is much more noticeable.

Definitely worth the money, love the premium sound package. It's all the stereo you could ever want or need.
If it means anything had a e90 with the upgraded stereo and this sounds even better than that. |

+1000000 This is a very very important point you make and overlooked by many. It's not so much about the number of speakers but more so about power and efficiency. I paid even extra and got the BMW Individual Sound aka: EPS. |

In Canada, the sound package is $1500.
I think it is definitely worth it, considering that doing the upgrade yourself later would cost much more than $1500. If I were you, I would get it now so I don't regret later (see how many people have regretted in the posts above!) Personally, I have the Premium sound package in my X6. It is really great. For the last 2 weeks, I have been driving a courtesy car (323i), and I have to say its audio system is crap. |

I didn't get it. I don't regret it. In my honest opinion, it's not that bad. I'd spend the money on other options. I did! I got the comfort seats instead. Best decision ever!
Now, the base stereo in the 3 series.... That's a piece of shit. I couldn't believe BMW would even sell a car with a stereo that terrible. |

My biggest regret is not laying out the dough for the Premium sound.....the base sound package is very low end (disappointing for such an expensive vehicle) and very difficult to upgrade....BSW does not have a solution yet, but they have advised they are working on one.....I'm keeping my fingers crossed. GO FOR THE PREMIUM!

I should have elaborated further....overall volume output is not a problem, but clarity and frequency range is. The base speaker package produces very "middle range" sounds and does not have good low end or high end frequency response. I also expect that the DSP included with the Premium system adds the much needed speaker placement adjustments for truly good sound. I drove an X5 with the Premium Package at the Performance Center during my pickup and was impressed.....thus my big disappointment with the base system.

Again, thanks everyone for your input. I believe I will opt for the premium sound pkg. Now I just need to hear back from my SA on when I can orden a MY12.
