[turb0mike] Sparta Evolution BBK
Sparta Evolution is a relatively new player in the vast market of BBK upgrades. We were approached by Sparta a couple months ago at my workplace with a fairly nice product. I have seen many new BBK companies that claim better performance, but I have always been skeptical. They look pretty, but do they perform?
I got the opportunity to actually try these brakes on the track a couple weekends back at the Speeddistrict's event at SOW. I met the Sparta Evolution crew: Mike, John, Vinnie, Tom, Duck, and many others. They are enthusiastic and passionate about providing and demanding a high level of performance from their brake systems. The temps were reaching 110* on the track, so these brakes would be tested. The first session I was somewhat confused because the brake pedal would engage about 20% of the way down and the brake feel was somewhat inconsistent. I relayed the information to Tom, their engineer, and he looked slightly baffled. I mentioned it might need a brake flush. I returned a couple sessions later for one last session on the brakes. The difference was night and day. They had flushed the brakes and the fluid was extremely dirty. After the flush, the brakes felt great, having a strong initial bite and linear response throughout the travel. The DTC70s worked very well. I beat on it for 7 straight laps at 3pm on a hot day (110*) and absolutely no brake fade. I was confident every time I got on them; I even stood on them a couple times just to see what would happen and they responded very well. It is very hard to quantify brake feel into words so I will answer more questions in the brake section of the forum. Needless to say I was impressed enough to ask Sparta for a set for my 335i. I love my Stoptech Trophy Sports, but it was time to switch it up as I have been running them for a little over 4 years. They have been nothing but reliable and steadfast, just need a change of scenery and give this new company a shot at some exposure. (my Stoptechs will be on sale soon). These Sparta brakes are, in my best description, a combination between the Stoptech Trophy Sports (for their gorgeous anodized coating) and the Brembo GTR (vented rotors). They do not have rubber dust boost, which means one less part for wear and tear. They are 2 piece rotors that are ALSO available in Carbon Ceramic. The CC will be interchangeable with the current hats. Put simply, these are engineered quite well. Sparta was generous enough to give me a sponsorship for this set and you are all more than welcome to check them out at the BBS booth at the SoCal Euro gathering this Sunday in San Diego, CA. If not, they will be on my car at the track at the next Shift S3ctor/Targa Trophy competition on the 6th of September at SOW. Hope to see you all there and enjoy the pictures! Specs: Sparta Evolution F: 6pot 355mm R: 4pot 345mm

They definitely look great. I'm guessing this is more of a competition BBK than a street and track friendly kit? Closer to Brembo GTR than Brembo GT.
I wonder how the pricing will compare to Stoptech and Brembo. Thanks for sharing. |

how much is a set like this going to retail? And where are these brakes manufactured (country)?
we seriously need more options and competitions for BBK upgrades. |

I remember seeing them at BimmerFest West. Their products looked legit, good to know they perform also. Great write up, can't wait to check them out.

So what you're saying is the CEO is the son of the guy who heads up Brembo? Pretty sure Brembo does the carbon ceramic work for Porsche - last I checked and I work in the industry.

Wish their website had a little more info on pricing. Any vendors/dealers out there yet with kits?

Looks like the pistons have a very tight fit in the caliper housings and if they don't have rubber boots, does that mean they only have groove seals to keep the brake fluid within the caliper? Or, what are the pistons made of? I assume stainless steel. And why the dimples on the surface of the pistons? From a noise perspective (which isn't really applicable for motorsports usage), that's a feature that could promote squeal. Two-piece caliper housings are cool but the latest (which isn't even that recent) is a monoblock. Any plans for Sparta to go that route? Having a monoblock design will increase rigidity
For the rotors, why the sine-like design as opposed to straight/angled slots? Does Sparta manufacture their own brake pads or are they outsourced and relabeled? SOrry for all the questions but I used to work in the braking industry

And yes, this kit is relatively new, but the pricing and performance are quite intriguing. I will be long term testing these and reporting back frequently. Come out to socal euro this Sunday or SOW next saturday to check them out!
