Canadian prices down for 2009

I don't have full details yet, but Canadian prices for most BMWs are down from $3,000 to $5,000 in 2009.

More details when I get them.

Canadian dealers have been losing sales to people buying in the US and then importing, even though that is a hassle and BMW tries to make it as difficult as possible.

The price drop for '09 is quite clever: it is big enough to make people feel better about buying an '09 but small enough not to upset everybody who bought an '08. Right now, '08s have some big incentives -- you'd probably get $8,000 off a well-equipped 2008 X5, for example.

I don't have any more details yet, but all Canadian dealers should have received the bulletin on Monday, so any Canadian members of this board should now be able to get '09 prices from their local dealer.

-----------------------------------

Edit: Go check xDrive50i's thread for actual '09 X6 prices. The 50i is down $3,000 from the original published price, although no '08s were actually sold in Cada.

The website lists the X6 xDrive50i at C$78,100.00 same base price when I ordered my 50i back at the end of May. As far as I can remember, that has always been the base price for the 50i according to most news reports I could find on the net (back then and now).

Unless you mean that the car is down by $3000 since the US raised or is going to raise the base price of the X6 by $3000 but the Canadian base price hasn't changed

What was the original Canadian asking price for the 50i base model according to your info?

That price of $78,100 on BMW's website must've just showed up yesterday or today. I checked on Monday (and almost every day before that for the past few months) and it was never there.

That leads me to believe the price is pretty accurate (although a price drop would also make sense).

Sorry -- I thought the original price was just over $80,000. I have been too busy the last few days to check properly.

All I know for sure about the price drop is that my dealer called me Monday afternoon and said he had received 2009 prices and they were generally down from $3,000 to $5,000 and it served me right for ordering a Mercedes and he was going to kill himself immediately after we finished talking.

He quoted a 5-series price, but then we got onto other topics. It is possible the X6 is staying where it was pricewise to more clearly separate it from the X5.

I'll see if I can get better information, but meantime I'm busy chasing the Mercedes dealer about the damage they did to my X5...

So, I spoke to the dealer. Bad news about the 50i -- the original price was part of the "new pricing strategy", so remains unchanged. It is existing models that get the reductions: X5, 5ers, etc.

Sorry if I got the Canadians all excited there!

Not a big deal to me. I knew what I was going to pay for it...

And isn't it usually that those deals are ALWAYS for those 'other' models and NOT the one you are interested?!?

That poor sales guy ... that was funny!

Hope they will take good care of you and fix it for you! Good luck.

HAHA... I was doing the EXACT same thing. I've been checking their website since middle of May, pretty much every single day to see when they would FINALLY update it to show the 50i information. So yesterday afternoon, early evening it did finally pop up
