Two kinds of Snap-in Adapters?
This is really pissing me off. So we bought a new X5d two weeks ago w/ BMW apps.
I had a 3Gs adapter for my M3. I plugged it in the X5. I could use the iTunes but not BMW apps. I took the car into my local dealer. This is what happened. According to the BMW accessories website, the "Media" Adapter is required for BMW Apps. It says that the 3Gs is supported. It also says to use either the Snap-in "Media" Adapter or the USB cable provided by Apple. Media Adapter Part Number: 84-21-2-218-391 Music/Standard Adapter Part Number: 84-21-9-229-004 When I use the Apple cable it works fine. However it doesn't with the non "media" snap-in adapter. He tells me he can sell me a $262.65 + tax "Media" adapter. If you ask me this is lame ass hell How can a one year old cable work but not the iPhone 3Gs snap-in adapter? Needed to vent!

Yeah and the 4 won't fit in that adapter. And when you upgrade to the 4 you need to replace the adapter. And when the next iPhone comes out I'm sure that will require a new snap in as well. The iPhone adapter situation drives me bonkers.

I posted about the snap in adapter just a few minutes ago. It's sad that you buy premium vehicle and they try to nickle and dime you on BS add ons. I just spent $70k on an truck and made sure to get BMW Apps and smartphone integration and now I need to pay $250 to buy an adapter to make it work 100%??? If you order the adapter when purchasing the truck, it is $150. If you order it 1 week later, it is $250. So a $100 premium just because you did not know to order it at the time of purchase. I feel that it is like being told that my X5 50i will only run on 6 cylinders unless I order the BMW full power adapter. Cut the BS and give me everything I need to have full funtionality on the BMW Apps I paid extra for. |

I can go into more details but basically the interface and wiring to the iPhone / USB / cradle changed drastically with the introduction of combox |

Waiting to buy snap in adapter
I just got my 35d last week, and I'm also annoyed at the hyper expensive accessories
The total cost of iPhone integration with apps is what, 250(BMW apps) + 250 (cradle) = 500 >> iPhone itself?? Shame on you BMW!! Anyway, I'm forced to wait to buy this overpriced upgrade, as he new iPhone 5 may require a different adapter. I love my X5 and all, but grrrrrrr. Ps. My CA sez that they may lower the price on the adapter, but don't hod your breath.
