Anyone ever had their X5M tow hook cover replaced?

Has anyone have their tow hook covers replaced on an X5M? I'm wondering how much the dealer is going hit me with in replacing them, especially since they need to be painted.

My local Body shop charged me $40 to paint it. $135 is crazy.

Yup. I just ordered some BMW aerosol paint and clear-coat for $28 and do it myself.

I don't think they need to be painted. I think they come pre-painted and you have to specify a correct paint code when ordering. My dealer lost one cover during delivery and they asked me for my paint code when they were ordering the replacement.

They do not come pre-painted from the factory as an option if you order it as a part. It is bare plastic (dark gray.) As I said in previous post if you want the dealer to paint it, they can or they have third party do it. That is what they probably did for you. Since THEY lost your cover, it was no cost to you. Cost they quoted me to replace with painted one was $135.

I can cofirm the above, cost me the same as I lost one on my last White X5 M-Sport 35d.

My dealer has there own brand new panel shop onsite, got them to paint my calipers yellow on my current M50d, did a good job as I made them mix a special paint colour.

Golly Guys I just found a missing tow hook cover on my 2012 X5M with about 11,000 miles. I figured the dealer will replace this part under some warranty (hidden or otherwise) as there was no sign of a bumper strike causing the loss of the cover. Has anyone else had this loss (unexplained) of the tow hook cover and is there no way BMW without charge will replace a snap in part like this? Seems a no brainer but then ..........

Just a follow up to my post above: Dealer has agreed to replace the missing tow hook bumper cover and to have it painted to match the bumper .......no charge!

Nice. Did it take much convincing?

I had taken my tow hook cover off before and I knew they didn't fit that well when I put them back in place so I didn't request that my dealer replace them (at their expense.)

i lost my front one when we had our freak and only snowstorm last October. The front nose turns into a snowplow in the deep drifts!!LOL

I order from a dealer online. But they wanted 75 labor to paint the little bastard. so I ended up ordering many fronts and rears and having them all painted for the same 75. What color is your truck?

Did it take much convincing? Sure. Initially the SA said there was a cost for the unit and then it has to be painted which is another cost. I said wait a minute: this vehicle has less than 12000 miles on it and there was no evidence of any impact resulting in the tow hook cover disappearing. its a mechanical or design issue. He said he would talk with BMW. Five days later they the dealer called and said its approved without charge for the part or painting. I suspect BMW knows there is a weakness in the covers attachment system. it probably doesn't hurt that I have another dealer equally as close which I could go to :>)

Kids pinch them as well, takes 5sec to grab off a bumper. I have had 5 X5's since 2007 and do a lot off rough beach driving and they just don't fall off.

I lost one because I did not clip it back in, left it hanging and it then fell off while driving.

and if you loose one, what better way to replace it by taking someone's else's, that's what probably happened to yours.
