X5d in cold weather!!! grrrrrrrrr!!!

No longer house bound during this last cold snap in Alberta, housebound because my X5 would not start at all!!. FYI, the X5d will NOT, I mean will NOT start below -20c. At -30C it won't even turn over. And somehow BMW justifies that a block heater is not required. Hey BMW WTF??????

haha me too ... I dont think batterys the issue op's having, under certain temp the oil starts to freeze and car wont crank, thats why they have block heaters installed than run every couple hours to keep the oil from freezing.. even parking lots in edmonton had electric outlets to plug those heaters in while parked, i know its crazy

Sure, he has diesel gelling or oil issues, but I bet we have it worse, with the existing and forthcoming potholes and all!

My X5 started last winter in -25 with no issues. Thats also sitting in an open parking lot close to the lake, It takes a while to warm up, but no issues starting. I suspect your battery is on its last legs.

You can probably install a webasto if you have money to burn
