Manheim values for X5M

Hi guys! I found a 2012 X5M with ~31k miles. Was hoping someone here may have access to Manheim? I plan on giving the dealer a call tomorrow, so I'd like to be as best prepared to negotiate. Dealer has it listed for $42k, which I think is a bit high.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

$42K! That's a lot of money for a 5 years old vehicle. I would wait a little longer and look in more places.

Right? Values based on kbb values, cars.com and Craigslist listings put it around $36-37k at most. Just called and spoke to a sales guy. God I hate speaking to them..."so you think I priced it too high?" No dipshit, it's pretty f'ing obvious that you did not haha

42k isn't necessarily high for a 2012 with 31k. These are becoming harder to find with low mileage.

Also, as someone with first hand experience with rebuilding a front crashed X5M, let me assure you that putting these back together is NOT a cheap process. Used parts are next to non-existent, and these are more complex and expensive than the run-of-the-mill E70 which litter junkyards.

Having a shop PROPERLY repair that crashed 2013 will run close to $20k. I spent $13k on parts alone to rebuild mine, which wasn't damaged as extensively as that one. I did my own labor and paint/body which would have run another 6-7k had I paid a shop.

I know when I am searching for a used BMW, I look everywhere and compile a list of "must see". TRUE Car is a good place to look. Here is an example: https://www.truecar.com/used-cars-fo...2012-bmw-x5-m/

Now, you have to do your research and inspections of the vehicle before you buy it.

2012 with low mileage and the right options (extended leather, driver assist, comfort, etc) is probably $37-39k.

Bottom line, truth be told. There isn't much of a market for used x5m's... The repair and replacement cost is still like new and things are more problematic. I've been looking at them for months (since mine was totaled) just to keep a gauge on the market and the same ones have been for sale for the last 90 days and the prices keep going further and further in to the shitter.

I've seen a few at Carmax go for a few thousand less than that - 2012's but slightly higher mileage in the upper 30's.

It took me several months of looking for finally pull the trigger on mine. I picked up a lower mileage 2010 that had the options I wanted- it's definitely had a number of things to repair to get it running right, but the price was right compared to others on the market. I'm one of the crazy folks that bought one out of warranty, so I'll have to reserve my opinion until I've owned it for awhile before saying I made the right choice.

I found a 2012 with 52k miles for $38k at carmax. Waiting for it to come into my local store. The prices on these cars haven't really bottomed and stabilized, as Dr Duct alluded to. If the resale value on these end up like any other X5, which is next to nothing, I may pass.

If it's a dark blue one from Virginia, then it's pretty darn clean. I had one transferred here that matched your description, but they had advertised it as black originally not blue which caused me to pass.

Actually, it is from VA! Did you see it/drive it? Thoughts?

In my experience, a lot of the carmax cars have beat up exteriors. Not sure if it's because it comes from auction, careless owners, etc. I guess I can't assume all car owners take care of their vehicles like me ha

Carmax is over priced.

Are you set on colors? There are some exceptional deals on cars.com and auto trader right now.

Imo these are not a good buy unless you are ok with losing money... They're still dropping hard in price. I think they will bottom out around 18-22k at 100k miles...

I like that thinking. At least, that was my estimation too before deciding to buy a 2010 with 95k for $22k. Indications were it's in solid condition, but that can change in an instant (as I know from 5 other X5s, but no prior X5Ms).

What I "saved" by forgoing a couple years newer and many fewer miles covers a few pricey repairs.

I think you're right. I realized this as well, as I looked at various model years and mileage, so trying to determine if it's worth it. I assumed prices would have stabilized after 5-6 years.
