335is to x6
Any one here go from a 335 to an x6? Wifey is pregnant and I am looking at a more practical car. Specifically, one with 4 doors. I also do a lot of biking and snowboarding while still liking te coupe look so the x6 is a consideration.
Now, I love the 335 but find that I can't even use it to a fraction of its potential as I find myself instantly way over the speed limit. But I like to know that it's there when needed. Especially to pass. Anyone here who has made the move regret it? Thanks, |

It depends on what is important to you. I went from a M5 to a X6 and I'm not thrilled. The X6 is one of the most capable 5,200lb vehicles on the road (especially with the adaptive drive). Still, it is a truck and not a car. You are not one with the X6 like you are with the 335.
HOWEVER, you don't feel every pothole like in the 335(Ok, I have the 19s, but even with the 20s, the ride is far better than what you have) and long distance trips are kind of nice (except at the 3 hour mark when you MUST get out of the car as your back and legs go into spasms). In a perfect world, you need both. The X6 for the trips and the days when you are taking the wife and kid around and the 335 for the weekends and or those days when it is just you in the car. PS - forgot about winter - the X6 is better there too.

X6 is not practical. It's a niche in a niche. I wouldn't give mine up for anything, but it's not really a daily driver or something to haul the family in unless the kids are still small. But after driving the 5.0 it won't matter what is and isn't practical. It's just fun to drive and drive fast.

Not practical?
It drives family of 3 adults and 2 kids (in car seats) with great comfort while holding 75-quart cooler, bugaboo stroller and bunch of bags with toys and groceries in the trunk at the same time Name one SUV that can do all that while spanking any family sedans on twisty roads P.S. For the reference, my dad's new X3 failed to take even half of my cargo load |

Keep the 335is and get the X6 .. that's what I did
Well, in my case it's '08 M Coupe and '10 X6 that I just bought last week. It's too soon to comment on it I guess, but so far I love the car. It's like my M Coupe is a sniper rifle and the X6 a mini chain gun! |

Main reason for us getting rid of X6 was bc there wasn't enough room for all of our stuff when baby number 2 came. With one kid we made do by always having half the back seat folded down but w 2 kids in back seat we couldn't fit 2 suitcases and the stroller in the trunk. Its the sloping roof line. Looks so good but not so functional. So family trips were out w the X6. Loved driving it, but it quickly became useless and we traded it in on a Q7.

I did it in 2011 from 2011 335 convertible to X6 5.0 - no regrets. I threw in the RR sport as well. I agree with other posters that if I could justify both, I would have both for the sunny days (maybe M3 tho).
Still loving the X6 and can't imagine changing it for anything quite honestly, except maybe an X6M just to be bashful |

From a babies' mama POV: I LOVE my X6s.. Got '09 back in '09 for baby number 1; and now in '13 for baby number 2.. 50i both times, '13 with M perfpkg. I love that it delivers for my transportation needs (kiddies, groceries.. My BabyJogger stroller fits wonderfully) in STYLE and does not scream mommy-mobile. Rear seat room is not IDEAL-- my 3 yr old is forever propping her feet up against my white napa leather.. But I love it and wouldn't even consider the X5.

I had 135i as a daily driver and X5 as winter/family hauler. I got tired of going back and forth. So I sold both and got X6M. I have two kids (5 and 7) and don't have much problem taking my family for a vacation. I can see that X6 space may be an issue with a couple of strollers and all the toys and stuff for kids, though. Even when my kids were small, we rarely needed trunk space above the cover. That's why I thought that I didn't need X5. Somebody said that X6 is not practical but I kind of disagree. If you ask me whether I miss my 135i, I am not going to lie. Yes, sometimes. But, I am overall happy with performance and practicality of X6.

BOB strollers. And hard shell suitcases. I keep thinking in about 3-4 years I will try one again bc there will be less crap to tow around w the boys being older. I absolutely loved driving it.

I went from 335 to X6M but agree that the trunk and back seats are not as practical for very young children requiring car seats. You can fit them back there but it does get cramped. It really sucks if they are under 1 year and you have to face the car seat backwards, if you routinely have a passenger. I absolutely love the X6M and wont give it up. My wife primarily carries the kids around in her Lexus which has a lot more room. WE bought and Escalade EXT which I drive on the days I will be taking the kids places or picking them up. Overall, 335 to X5 probably a more practical move.

i went 335 to x6... i do miss the car but if i had the car still i would miss the capabilities of the x6... this may sound weird but its way more practical, ski trips, mountain biking and throwing all my hockey equipment in the x just seems right, it cruises beautifully on the highway goes around turns great and seems to impress everyone whos in the car, like i said i do miss my 6spd 335, but def dont regret my decision. hope that helps
