I forgot about the Torque Vectoring rear diff, well with that I don't think the 335i saloon will stand a chance against such a rival machine.

huh?

First off...on a small track like that...it's not about the power, but everything else.
And second, the A4 was running on way better tires than the 335 was running on. Just look at the comparison charts on tirerack.com.

Both got 335 sedan and A4 3.2 got 1,18.0 around the track. The 335 coupe was slightly faster at 1,17.8 sec.

So, as usual, the 335 has an advantage, even on shity tires.

E90ice,

Mate I am surprised that you didn't check out things before posting, you say better tyres, the Audi was on Dunlops and the last time I check they were among the worst performance tyres on the market (I know why is Audi using them ). Another thing the 335i is conservatively rated at 306hp (nearer 350hp is the truth) against a heavier, least powerful (265hp) rival with Quattro which as you lot keep saying saps power and yet gets within 0.2s of the 335i.

Remember that on FifthGear the 335i only beat the S5 by 0.06s so on this assumption the humble A4 3.2Quattro would have beaten the lot of them.

My original comments regarding Torque Vectoring was for the S4 which will also be producing over 300hp like the 335i and WILL hammer it on the track.

Sorry to burst your 335i bubble.

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about and you don't know squat about the 335. Who told you that the 335 had 350hp?
Next time, since you are on this forum so much for no reason, before openinig your mouth, take a look a the 100000000 stock dynos of the 335 and then come back tell us all how the 335 has 350 hp. Douchebag!

S5 is pathetic, performance wise. Quattro and 350 useless hp, that barely ran even with a one-whell drive 335.

Maybe I forgot to mention that I live near the VW/Audi USA headquarters in Westlake, CA. I see test mules (including the B8 A4, the NEW Q3, the S5 pre release, the RS6 Avant...etc) all the time.

And my work might just be right around the corner from BMW Design Works North America...lets just say I've seen my fair share of new BMWs way before their release

For starters I am talking at the engine power and not at the wheels but I thought you would have known that, clearly not as is the case. Secondly you seem to repeat or use T-Bone's comments like 'one wheel drive 335' is it a case that you idealise the guy or what.

In the weeks since we first published the results of that test, we’ve heard some criticism of our conclusion that the 335i makes "closer to 350 hp" than the reported 300. We arrived at that verdict after some quick calculations, but since a chassis dyno only reports how many horses make it to the wheels, it’s admittedly a hard number to verify. We did four runs with that particular car, and the actual peaks were 276, 280, 280, and 283 horsepower. We published the lowest number to be sure there was no claim that we were exaggerating the engine’s output.
Either this was a typical example of the 335i or it was a ringer supplied by BMW for boost it's performance figures in tests, take your pick, either BMW under rate their power figures or they cheat.

What one is it.

I won't judge it until I see the FINAL production model. The B8 body styling is gorgeous so I'd imagine the S4 will be nothing short of that.

Yes, am I talking power at the crank, not at the wheels.
Take some time out of your busy life bashing the 335, and look up some stock dynos.

How does a car that dynos 270whp end up with 350 at the crank, genius?

15% drive train loss for 6AT (BMW official)
13% drive train loss for 6MT (BMW official)

Do some math!

If Audi lost then, of course, BMW must have cheated. The oldest story in the book. Grow up!

Exactly, I don't have any respect for Audis just like Audi owners (like him and yourself) don't have any respect for the 335.

All his statements are against the 335.

And for someone that doesn't own a 335 (like him and yourself) to come here and bash it and tell everybody that it has 350hp and all the negatives...i find that very cocky and annoying. You should put that S5 on a diet, both for weight and money.

Now, back on topic....

I agree with most people in this thread...so far the new S4 doesn't look too pretty.

I have to admit that footie does come off as partially anti-335i in his posts.

Looks like the back end of Saab to me! I know Audi's drive well, quattro is a nice plus, interior is usually pretty good, but aside from the S5, they are just too bland for my taste.

PS - I think it's great to see all the discussions on here, because lets face it you are all passionate about the cars you love.... keep it up! It would be so dull if we couldnt argue the toss about why BMW's are better looking than Audi's!

I agree with others here....FUGLY rear end...

I also found Audi's leaked ad campaign for the upcoming S4 launch...

Mate,

Maybe it is a certain individuals that has made me that way because from the very first post it was anti-Audi and hint at gayness which well prove how narrow minded some people were.

The 335i is a good car and I can see why in the States it's regarded so highly what with being so much cheaper than the competition but else where in the world the differences are a lot smaller and because of this I reckon over here we don't rate it just so highly.
