Anyone else really like mid 90's Japanese sports cars?
Like the title says,
I am talking 2nd and 3rd gen Supras, RX-7's, NSX's, and 300zx's.... I love these cars for some reason. I have never owned one but find them to be very interesting machines and way ahead of their time. In many ways too far ahead of their time as evidenced by some of their faults...

my favorite era when it comes to cars.. but probably because it was the time i was growing up. its weird, but i even miss those wacky cars [ie. like a weird baby blue eg with gtr headlights and supra tailights or something that'll make you giggle until it blows past you because its got like 500whp tucked under the hood lol..

I loved the 3rd Gen RX7.....super light, great handling and 247 hp.....great track so, so long as it doesn't overheat (sound familier 335 guys? )
The Supra Turbo was awesome too.....but it was expensive and heavy in its day. Then they all left the segment....

I have a mk2 and mk3 supra. The Mk2 is getting a mk3 turbo engine and will be making around 600hp. The mk3 has the hks sports turbo. My ex roommate had a 3rd gen Rx-7. I like the 300zx tt. It looks classy, but does not responds to mods as well as the supra. Gary 1st picture is of my 87 supra with the 92 GMC Typhoon in the background. 2nd picture is the front of my supra with the mk2 supra in the background and the supercharged e30 m3 next to the mk3 supra. You can barely make out the 3rd gen rx-7. Last edited by garyhgaryh; 01-31-2008 at 07:10 AM.. |

mid-90's Japanese sports cars? yeah, they're alright...
...btw, 2nd and 3rd gen Supras, as much as i like them, were not from the mid-90's - the MKIV (4th gen) was.

Every now and then when I get hit by nostalgia I scour the pages of ebaymotors with the hopes of finding a cheap and mint model and also the courage to bring one home Its safe to say the people on this thread are of the same age group...

i don't think any other Japanese sports car quite fits the description of "exotic" quite like the NSX.

i love those too!
...too bad it would cost me a fortune to turn the daily driver (95 Celica) into a true GT-4 btw i don't know if anyone knows Toyotas well enough here, but i see a Rod Millen/TRD spoiler in place ofthe OEM one on that GT-4. i don't think that front bumper or rocker panels are OEM either.
