Roof Box Question (Need Help)

Recently I purchased ROLA roof rails for the E70, are there specific roof boxes that are compatible? I've researched other cargo roof boxes and most were unsure/vague regarding support system details. Thanks for your guys' help in advance!

The least you could do is post your solution, rather than hide it from the world.

ROLA roof rails are 3 1/8 so as long as any roof cargo box can secure to those dimensions or has a quick-grip mounting system it'll work with these roof rails.

Thule is a good example that'll work well with the ROLA roof rails

Yes, pretty much any Thule or Yakima boxes will fit as most of their roof boxes have adjustable claws to hold on to the roof bars.

I also have got Rola rails, and on my 2012 X5 they work perfectly with the box by Thule... Cannot say anything about the other brands, but I like the combination I've got.

Nice did you go with the Thule sonic size M? I heard it looks pretty good on these E70s

I have the Thule Flow and get compliments on it all the time - -

very low profile so not a ton of space when compared to others but plenty for my needs and long enough for ski's while still allowing for use of the rear hatch when on the truck...

here is a picture of it on my 2013 M and another on my 2011 50i MSport for reference

Awesome pics!

I actually like yours, I wouldn't mind the more slim sleek look versus some that I have seen. Appreciate the pics because that helps when somewhat looking on how it would appear on my E70. Of course google pics are available yet better coming from someone personally actively on a forum

That was my biggest challenge determining which one to get -- couldnt really tell exactly how large the box would be until I actually had it on the truck -- really very happy with this one -- it is very wide and barely produces any noise at 75

Let me know if you want to see any other angles as it is still up top -- will try to get a little better quality this time too!

Awesome, if you don't mind taking some additional pictures that would be greatly appreciated

Do you load yours up from the passenger side or is it both? Thanks for the feedback on the noise portion roughly around 75 so I understand if it does make noise it'll be most likely the box

In regards to the noise level there is no doubt I have brought it up past 75 with the box up top and could hear minimal noise from it regardless of speed, especially when compared to others I have heard over the years. I was more nervous that it would fly off but have absolutely no reason to believe that has ever been even close to happening -- the Thule method to secure on the racks is very simple, easy and effective.

It opens from both sides and is very light -- I am not a tall guy (5'8" +/-) and it can be a little tricky but I can put it on and off by myself in about 10 minutes or so --

If placed correctly there is absolutely NO interference with the tailgate nor is it visible through the windshield despite the slight overhang when looking at it from outside.

I honestly looked for some time before landing on this model and could not be happier with it -- if you want more detail on any area or another angle dont hesitate -- sorry for the crappy iPhone shots by the way...

Awesome again thank you so much for the additional pictures and your personal experience of what you go through. Looks pretty great all around even if it does look like it over hangs in the front. Expected, I would say so because of weight distribution and aerodynamics involved I'm sure.

Roughly how much is this one in particular if you recall? I believe I saw some going for $400.00 + s&h

Glad I could help -- it is called the Thule Flow -- I know I paid a 'Premium' as I had some pretty specific requirements in terms of what I wanted -- I bought it new and think it was around $700 or so -- one of those things I don't plan on ever buying a second time if you will, at least not in the foreseeable future!

You know this box is slim up front, buy fat on the back. I wouldn't be surprised if it carried quite a bit, if you're willing to cram things in.

I ended up buying a Thule Glacier REI co-branded box used for $250. 1500 cubic, probably going to be way too big for me, likely will never fill it up

that sounds like a great deal -- $250 bucks is tough to beat and that looks like a pretty low profile model also no?

It looks low profile in the pics, but no, it's a classic sized box you see everywhere.

The appearance is better than photos too. It's got this fake carbon fiber surface on the shell. The box attaches no different than the Thule Atlantis model.

Yeah, in the Bay Area, these boxes sell like hotcakes. Any decent shaped one under $300 is a steal.
