BMW LED Halo Question

Hey guys,

I posted this in the xbimmer section but thought i would give it a try here. I have a 2012 x5 with the led DRLs. About a couple months ago it would randomly go out and then work, then about 3 weeks ago they stopped working all together.

What has me confused is that i took them completely apart, and after troubleshooting found that the headlight is good. I transfered the units etc. but when i connected the drivers side head light to the passenger harness the halo drl works, and when i put the passenger side on the driver side harness those rings didnt work.

Any ideas on where else i can look, i dont think there is a fuse that only monitors the LED DRLs?

Doesnt seem to be a coding issue because the passenger side works fine the entire time. The entire harness looks good tried to move it around but the lights never came on.

Thanks,

When you transferred the drivers side light to the passenger side and it worked..did you swap any of the internals?

Does the angel eyes have any type of ballast or igniter ?

Yes the led unit has a ballast, so here is what i did. I took both led modules and the ballast from the working (passenger) side and transferred them to the drivers side, plugged it in, and it did not work.

Took the driver side parts put them on the passenger headlight, connected the passenger side and it worked.

Then i took the passenger headlight, connected it to the drivers side harness and it did not work, i took the driver side headlight plugged it into the passenger harness and it worked.

Basically something from the driver side harness going backwards is the issue but i dont have any clue where to look.

if you get a working light and apply to passenger side harness it works, but if you get the same light and apply it to the driver side harness it does not work ?

Have your tried to measure voltages on the harness connections? Perhaps compare voltages from the passenger side (working) to the driver side.

I need to do that next, its one main harness that controls the entire headlight.
