Things you dislike about your E70 X5?
Here is what I dislike about mine...
1) The reading light has no cover. You can stick your finger up into and touch the bulb. It feels and looks incredibly cheap. My e92 and the new F10 all have little covers over the light. 2) The cornering light feature where it turns on one fog light when you turn on the blilnkers. I've received multiple comments from people telling me to check my fog lights. ArgH! 3) I hate how when you look down at where the seat belt buckle is and you see what looks like the motor for the seat with it's bright yellow sticker. 4) There is a gaping hole in the dash next to the glove compartment 5) No key lock for glovebox or center console. 6) Car forces you to close the drivers door in order to put it in gear. What do you hate about yours? |

Hi there, new to this forum but ocassionally post on another e70 related site. I'd love to take a crack at some gripes:
- (For those with the rear-climate package option) The temp control knobs turn way too easily - cranking the temp way over in either direction if someone accidently brushes into it. - Water seems to collect in the seals of passenger's side rear door: everytime it's opened up after it rains, a pool of water splashes down onto the running boards. - No seatbelt height adjustment (I don't think it's on my e90 3 Series either) - BMW assumes humans are all one size fits all category in this dept. - E70 X5 Sport seats don't have adjustable lumbars like in the e90 sport seats (not the inflatable pillows but the ability to adjust the wings attached to the seat backs) - (at least for pre-lci) horrible rear view camera - pixelated/grainy, terrible at night, and just slow at activating and switching off - Running boards stain easily and are hard to clean off - Third Row is a joke |

-no option for soft close doors
-no ventilated Nappa option -steering wheel on non M Sport is not Nappa -premium audio is a let down on new one (not on my old 08) - this is odd, but i always feel like i am sitting sideways while driving because the pedals are pushed to the left (wide console). Minor gripes. All in all love it and still consider it one of the best SUVs on the road. |

The navigation system is just awful! It takes less time to drive to your destination than to program the address into the system.
HUD does not work with polarized sunglasses. I have to turn my head sideways to see the display. To be fair, the windshield on my E70 was replaced before I bought it with a non-OEM version. Do you have this HUD problem with an OEM windshield? Driving throught the carwash in N, come to the end of the motorized track, and need to step on the brake to put it into D. The first time taking it through carwash the car behind me almost crashed into me because I couldn't get into D fast enough! |

Correct me if I'm wrong but the water pooling at the rear passenger door is actually runoff from the panorama roof. I have left mine propped up a few times overnight when it rains by accident and always have a bunch of water in this area when I open that door but none inside.

This is only true if you have the new idrive. 07 and 08 E70's have the older idrive. The 07 and 08 idrive is much worse than the newer ones. My e92 has the older one, and my x5 has the newer one. Night and day difference even though the newer one isn't super phenomenal in itself.

I'm still annoyed by having to pull the door handle twice to unlock the doors. Yeah I know you can disable the auto lock, but it its a good idea to have the doors locked when having two small kids in the car.

"At least there's a factory optional spare tire (assuming no 3rd row) unlike the e90 series. With that, you can go non-RFT without worrying too much."
Agreed, I have the space saver spare. Not by coincidence, my comment came as a result of yesterday celebrarying my first 1000 mile mark on a 2012 SAV with a big screw embedded in my right rear tire - I guess the tire insuarnce will pay for itself pretty fast.... |

Another thing I hate about my car the e70 is that the Random (shuffles songs) is unset everytime I restart the car. Seems like an easy fix in their software if they could properly catch the glitch...
One small other net picky thing is why they had to switch around the steering wheel buttons for next and previous between the e70 and e90. I get all confused when I switch between the two cars! |

Another vote for the nav. The user interface is absolutely awful. They should be ashamed. $125 Garmin Nuvi blows it away. I love BMW's and will continue to buy them; but will never get the nav option again.

Even though I too hate the Nav, I can't stand the small ugly dinky a$$ screen without it.

there are several reasons I don't like about X5, although I drive 4.8 V8
1. the V8 engine is only about 350hp, 350 torque, it is not enough for me, no power 2. the SUV is too heavy 3. the transmission is too slow 4. the premium sound I feel not good, although my X5 has fully loaded with M-sport 5. oil consumption is around 15L/100 in summer, and 16.5L/100 in winter 6. car wash is a huge task. in conclusion, I prefer to drive small car with more horsepower, such as M3 or C63 rather than drive SUV. |
