New(ish) member - Pulled the trigger on a 2012 x50i

I've been lurking around this forum (and others) for the past 3 months. After an arduous search, I finally found an X5 to my liking, and pulled the trigger. I was searching throughout the country, but finally found one in my own backyard!
Alpine White, with black interior, 34K miles. Pictures below:

https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=25E84...8CA6EC%2190087

It has all the options that I wanted, and more: AD, MC seats, 3rd row, LDW, Active steering, rear ent, adaptive cruise, tech pkg, cold weather, etc., to name a few. I had new tires (conti DWS) thrown in, and alignment done as part of the deal.

Hoping for many more years of X5 bliss!

Congrats. I'm about a year into my 2012 and love it.

Plop a Burger Tuning Stage 1 into it and it will wake it up.

Nice one mate. Looks to be nicely looked after, and some nice options on there also.

Thanks everyone! Have been thoroughly enjoying driving this over the weekend

I'm contemplating switching the 336s for a set of 333s. If anyone is looking to sell your 333s, let me know

I just read about this performance option. Sounds cool, and will definitely consider this. Will this impact warranty in any way? I plan on getting extended warranty from BMW.

I'm using BMW of Seattle for warranty work, and use a Cobb accessport. So far they have not said a thing. Technically if an engine mapping caused the engine to blow-up, then you're at fault. If your door locks stop working, it's not the fault of your engine retune, and normally be something covered (assuming you have the right level warranty)

I looked into this as well ... not with the Burger Tuning product .. but a tuner in FL.

Here's their verbatim response:

Question: My dealer says warranty is affected with any aftermarket tune. Can you provide in writing that yours does not?

Answer: Your dealer is absolutely right. The idea is that the process involves a procedure in which dealers cannot identify the tune is present and if you were to have an issue the car is flashed back to stock.

No way to provide this in writing since any aftermarket anything will affect a portion of your warranty if dealer is advised.

Too risky for me while the car is under factory warranty ...

Now that you have AD, regular X5's will never feel the same. Great find.

I've never driven an X5 without AD and am curious how big the difference is.

Be extra careful before spending your money on a warranty extension. There are many levels of coverage, which are not necessarily the same as the factory warranty. Be sure to read everything so you know what is and isn't covered. I took a pass and banked the money. So far, so good...

I have had 3 with AD and I gladly spend the money every time. I had a non-AD X5 w/ 20's just like mine for over a month and the transition to a non-AD and then back to AD was very apparent.

Thanks! This is my first BMW, and I test drove a base x35i a few weeks ago (no AD). The x35i felt rather underwhelming, and handling felt only meh. The 50i with AD feels like beast, with superb handling, in comparison. Might've been the AD effect..

One of my primary search criterion was AD, and I searched more than 3 months for this one ( I ran every new 2012, 2013 x5 listing in cars.com through the vin decoder.. that's about 50 per day for over 3 months )

Yikes. Isn't that for only two more years beyond factory, up to 100k miles total? If so, it seems that two years, especially for a low mileage vehicle, will come and go like "that" (snapped fingers).

the one I'm considering is 7/70 (which will translate to coverage till 04/18 and another 36K miles).

A couple of years ago, I got the engine and power steering rack replaced under extended warranty for my Infiniti G35 - best $1.5K I spent, so I'm sold on the "benefits" of extended warranty.

I'm DEF getting the extended. Yesterday the famous "engine malfunction" at 34k "11" came my way.
I was on the list for the vanos recall so last month I serviced and "took care of the recall". 3wks later the Bimmer was acting funny with the shakes and a studder when coming to a stop. BMW took it in & had it for 1week. Gave it back saying they didn't find anything and they reprogrammed. Yesterday 11/25 it reduce power showed up so I had it towed to BMW.
N O W here's the tricky part: if they replaced vanos and worked on it why do I have all the same dust from day one on my engine covers. No whip or finger prints indicating they was touched or removed to perform work. I called them out on this..... Waiting on my return. Will keep updated
