Home link in mirror

The garage door opener in the mirror only works if the car engine is running.
Is there any way to get power to it so I can open or close the garage door with out the engine running? I have tried powering up accessories and it still does not operate the door unless the engine is running.

I contacted Carly to see if it can be coded and they replied "Sorry, we don't have this feature yet. We get so many requests for really interesting stuff, just like yours. Nonetheless we have to prioritize based on customer demand."

Anyone else look into this?

Thanks

This is a great idea, but I've seen nothing.

In previous VW's I've had this is the same functionality. Engine has to running for the garage door opener to work. They say it's for security, but every other opener hanging off the sun visor has worked.

That said I think you have to trace down the power wire to the homelink circuit in the mirror and then move that wire to a +12V battery lead instead of ignition.

I did it in one VW but frankly I don't think it's worth it. Should not be hard to find if you tear it all down. Good luck.

My Homelink works after I push the start button a second time (without starting the car)

The home link in my Mini Cooper was hard wired to always on, it can be done but the issue is the auto dimming mirror will always be active as well. At least the one in the mini worked that way so I'm sure BMW is similar.

I would like to do this as well. I may give it a shot when I do my valentine one hard wire via mirror tap / blend mount.

I will post my findings...

Eh this should be very very simple. Just hardwire it to the lights.
