Need Advice: Buying a 2013 X5 35i

It has 27,710 miles and going for $31,900. What do you think?

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Depends a lot on how it's configured. What packages/options does it have?

Probably a leased car that dealer sold @ auction and picked up by 3rd party for resale. Below average mileage. Could presume 2 oil changes per computer based BMW maintenance plan? Visual inspection needed to confirm condition of course. Check websites for used car pricing on this model/options configuration.

FWIW, I bought a 2004 X5 (E53) under the same circumstances. Car had 25K miles and was in pristine condition. Negotiated a good price and ran that car for another 100K without a hitch. I believe the notion of buying a late year version of a BMW model makes sense re: "kinks worked out", and have read similar opinions of others, including Mike Miller. New F15 will set you back ~ 60K or more.

So if you want to keep this ride for a long stretch, use Mike Miller's BMW maintenance guide (plenty of sources on the web). First things first - oil/filter change. Then recommend the following fluid change schedule (most of it DIY if you are inclined):

engine oil/filter: every 5 - 7K
front/rear diffs: every 30K
transmission: every 60K
transfer case: every 60K (+ ECU reset)
brake/coolant - every 2 years
power steering - every 30K

Best of luck...Chef K

I don't know what you're looking for in a vehicle, but this X5 is gutted. Stripped. It has literally no optional packages or options. It's the Premium trim, so a step above the Base trim, but still below Sport and M Sport. But beyond that I don't see a single package or option, not sure I've ever seen that and I've been decoding E70 VINs for years. It doesn't even have the Convenience Package, which every 35i seems to have.

Pass. Find one with some packages and options. Just my .02.

Bluetooth is all my wife needs. In any event, we passed for other reasons. 1) the car smelled like vomit. I thought it was the leather seats but my wife said it can't be the leather seats. 2) lift gate wasn't working and they are taking it to BMW to get it fixed. Really, you don't check that out and have it fixed before offering it up for sale? and 3) wife does not like oyster seats with black carpets and black trim on the outside.

Oh well. Thanks everyone. The hunt continues.
