certified 2013 X5 m sport with 43k miles

Local dealership has this vehicle and my wife is interested. One owner off lease. (35i x-drive) How much were the residuals on 2013's? How much is too much for this car? I'm pretty sure it has top view backup cameras, navigation, leather, 20" wheels, memory seats, homelink, a huge sunroof. Body looks very clean.

It would help if you told us how much they were asking, and maybe a link to the X5 you're referring to.

Their asking price is full retail. Look at the carfax, it appears to have been for sale since some time in April and just passed on from one dealer to the next though its hard to tell exactly what was going on. I think they have somewhere between $28k-30k in it and that'd be a good place to start. I wouldn't go over $33k.

I haven't been keeping up with E70 pricing but if it's at a BMW dealer assume it's full retail.

Every 2011+ X5 will have navigation, leather, memory seats, Homelink, and panoramic moonroof standard, regardless of model or packaging.

This one is nicely optioned (per VIN decoder) -

Sport Package w/ optional 20's
Convenience Package (includes rear view camera w/ top view which you mentioned)
Cold Weather Package
Premium Sound Package
Active Steering
Soft Close Doors
Comfort Seats (a must-have, per most forum members)
BMW Apps

Well my offer of 33k was declined, but this is only the first day of negotiation. I asked for a counter offer.

For additional negotiating leverage, go onto the NHTSA website with the VIN to see if the driver side airbag recall has been performed. If not, bring this to their attention.

Thanks for checking. They still have not bothered calling back with a counter offer.

Don't worry about it. That's typical dealership indifference. They made tons of these cars with all sorts of option packages. Don't get too emotionally bound to any one. Look for others.

I would consider it, but I really want a certified model. I am not rich or brave enough to own a BMW with no warranty.

I am pretty much limiting my search to cpo 2013 35i models near here, although that one is nice.

If you haven't already, it would be a good idea to read up on the CPO warranty and understand what it covers and doesn't cover - it's by no mean as comprehensive as the 4 year/50K mile warranty. My 2012 is CPO'd and the first big repair recently came up and was not covered by CPO.

Dealers will charge a premium for CPO but is it worth it? For me, I guess I'll know after it expires in another year and I recount what, if anything, it covered. I'm exactly 1 year into mine and have gotten nothing out of it. But my X5 checked all the boxes in terms of what I was looking for and just happened to be CPO'd - I'd have bought it either way. And there's no way to pay less and un-certify it...

What did you have fixed that wasn't covered? Is there a link you can post that describes what is and isn't covered?

Here is a link to the CPO exclusions:

http://cache.bmwusa.com/Pdf_16a4e27f...f-adbdaad31bd1

I just picked up a 50i CPO (every option except m-sport and 3rd row)with 46k for $40,500. I took it in for a checkup on Wednesday to look at some faults that were stored and they fixed:

- Steering Angle Sensor Replaced
- Alarm System Battery Replaced
- Drivers Seat Ventilation Fans Replaced (4 fans)
- Replaced Upper Engine Cover, Seals, Clamps, Gaskets (oil leak)
- Replaced Blower Motor Resister (ac fan speed fluctuation)
- Replace PDC Sensor (had a short)

CPO easily saved me $3500+ on the first trip to the dealership...
