Scary that happened with his daughter in the car. Car does appear to be modified, but shit every car I ever owned had some sort of modification done to it. I just can't see this happening from just one aftermarket part, possibly a combination of leaks, malfunctions, comparability issues with aftermarket parts and bad luck.

Glad everyone got out ok. Chances are if it was an average Joe this would not hit the news.

Has anyone heard anything about this happening on the forums? I know of X5's catching on fire in the most random ways.

Before this thread, I thought only 458 Italia's spontaneously catch fire.

At least both of them got out ok, especially the daughter. Thank God!
Hopefully Bmw finds what actually caused it and not point fingers at random aftermarket parts.

The poor X6 just couldn't live with its ugliness... Poor thing.

Kidding aside, glad to hear everyone is ok!

Having driven and continue to drive the X6M on and off again, I have never had any spontanious combustion moments.
Hopefully this is a one-off and I am glad that no one was seriously injured.
A car is just a car.

BMW's engineers and forensic department will extensively look over the car as per all BMW high profile incidents. BMW are not supportive of the Aftermarket which is why if you have a BMW with aftermarket work extensively altering the car they void your warranty. Far too often the customer is left out in the cold by being told that its BMW's fault. I know someone who works with these claims and they say every one is rejected if found to have extensive aftermarket work done.

But as a side effect BMW's Rolls-Royce division has now banned tuners from touching their cars.

It's the second i see in less than a week. Last weekend saw a 1 series in flames after a huge crash..But this one has "less reasons" to burst into flames like that.

Wow! Not a lot of sensitivity in here. Happened upon this tonight - haven't been on this forum in a long time. This was my car.

The car was serviced at Center BMW in Sherman Oaks, CA from October 25th - November 2nd for an engine malfunction. The dealer and BMW NA decided to replace all eight (8) fuel injectors as well as other fixes. I picked the car up on the evening of November 2nd and barely drove the car. The next day, November 3rd, was when the fire occurred. And it happened just like I said. Both my kids were in the car - we had only 15 seconds to get out prior to the passenger compartment having been engulfed in flames. It was absolutely insane.

And what the hell do a set of HRE's have to do with the engine catching on fire and exploding?

And yes, their was a large warning indicator that was all across my windshield on my HUD. Never seen it before.

And the passenger's door would not open and I had to drag my daughter out my side of the car. My 9 year old son, who was sitting behind me, got out very quickly. I burned my hand as I got out of the car as the flames were already sweeping past the driver's door.

You think this is a joke? Not a joke to me and my family.

Although, I do have to admit, the Domino's guy driving past the car engulfed in flames - would be funny if it were not so absolutely stupid.

What a crazy situation - I'm really happy to know that you and your family made it out safely.

Oil leaked out that quick , thats alot of oil that leaked out its not like the block cracked, slowed down for a speed bump and IN SECONDS engulfed in flames. GO look back at the pictures and come back.

Oil leak would not do that.
