Can teh roof rails be installed at a later stage, ie, not ordered with new car?

Apparently, unlike the X5, it looks like the X6 roof rails are designed to be put on/taken off at will. I've seen reports that it takes about 15mins. Note that I've deduced this from research, not experience.

Search eBay for 'BMW x6 rails'. You'll get hits for both OEMs and reps. Looks like you'd have to have the plastic covers painted if you want them to match your car. Not so much of an issue if you're only leaving them on for a week, but perm is another matter.

Roof rails

What is your source if you don't mind me asking? I just posted a question on this subject. Is this something I could do myself?

It's a post for removing roof rails. I'm assuming that you'd do the reverse to install them.

Here is some more info:

http://www.justanswer.com/bmw/2t2tg-...-new-roof.html

So it appears that there two things at play here: *the roof rail system and the optional roof rack. *The roof rail system apparently just being the threaded holes in the roof required to bolt down the rails.

Perhaps since you can't order an x6 to include rails anymore, they just pre drill them all. *That would make sense to me...

The ultimate answer would be for you to look under that trim piece on your roof to see if you have the bolt holes for the rails. *If you do, you should be good according to that second article right? (the 2nd reply at the bottom)
