911 GTS 4

with the 991 body style out I found a STEAL on a 2012 911 GTS 4.
Considering trading in the X5M for the 911. It would be the daily driver.
What do you think, will I miss the X5M? Its a special truck especially with the vorsteiners...

Don't both cars serve different purposes?

If you don't need the additional space that the X5M provides, then get the Porsche. It's not a knock on the X5M, but more along the philosophy that a smaller sporty car will be more fun to drive.

No. Simply based on my opinion that there is too much wheel gap on that P-car for my taste, in the class and budget range

Just kidding. If its truly a 'steal' and u don't need to the daily driving duties of the X5 M then go for it!

Keep the x5m as the daily. It's a fantastic car and you can comfortably seat your guests

I'm guessing if you're looking at maybe trading for the 911 it's because you don't need the practicality of the X5! So your questionning is about wich one would be the most fun to drive everyday!!?

Counterpoint.....As a daily driver the Porsche will be far less comfortable than your X5M is. The P is a fabulous car, but this is an apples to oranges comparison. You really have to consider how much opportunity you will have to enjoy the car's dynamics and handling on a frequent basis before you make it a daily driver.

Interstingly, I currently have the Cayenne GTS as my daily, and the M3 as my play car....sort of the "opposite" of the cars you are looking at.

Any way you can keep your X5M? That would be the best situation.

Thanks for all the replies, some good points made.
Unfortunately, I can not afford to keep both, it's one or the other.
Some additional factors are:
We plan to have kids within 2 years so that means I will need an SUV in a couple years. This would be a nice chance to have a P car for a daily driver over the next 24 months prior to kids. Then I can go back to an SUV

I do have a second car, a '66 backdraft cobra so the Porsche would not be the 2nd car- it would really be a daily driver.
I am considering the comfort driving the porsche everyday. Thinking about the commute to the train in icy or bad weather - but thats what the "4" in GTS4 is for!

if it were just a question of which car is better, it would be a no brainer for me to get the Porsche. i like the 997 style better than the 991 anyway. but would your only two cars then be the 911 and the Cobra? because you would hate life nearing able to carry anything but two people and a few shopping bags

I would really think through this. Picture your typical day and what you do...can you live without the space, utility, exta seats, etc? I do acknowledge that the 911 in question is AWD. This is coming from a huge Porsche fan (and one that just sold his E92M3 for a 997 Turbo) so trust me, I'm not biased one way or the other. I DD an SUV and drive the Turbo maybe one day a week and all weekend long....I need to haul clients from time to time and go out to construction sites periodically as well so the 911 would not work for me as a primary vehicle. Just run through your typical day and then make your decision.

When I had kids, I ended up buying an e90 m3 instead of an e92. Worked out great! It's my daily driver, and the convertible is the fun/nice weather/weekend toy. The wifey gets the SUV.

Sounds like you should get a Porsche Panamera 4S or GTS. I was going to have only one vehicle, this would be it.

Missed this post.............get the 911 while you can. It appears that your typical commute is to the train station and your job does not require you to use your vehicle. You will love the 911.

The fact that the X5M has brutal power and nice handling is icing on the cake.
Exactly, the car handles really well for its size, its very practical and dare I say it will pull an e9x M3 from a stop light!?!

It is practical in terms of space, comfort, and safety relative to a smaller car. After having a performance SUV as a daily driver for a number of years now, I can tell you that they soak up road hazards that would almost certainly damage a car, and due to the added clearance from the road, they suffer MUCH less paint damage. The performanc capabiliteis of the X5M are just icing on the cake. I am a big fan of a performance SUV as a daily driver.

Looked at the Panamera GTS, amazing car but it ends up being too expensive.
The GTS 4 is a 125,000 MSRP car and I am able to lease it for 24 months at the same price as an 80,000 car on a 36 month lease. Thats why I'm considering it- it really is a steal for the money and I can be in and out in 24 months.

Thats correct- my commute is just to and from the train station. I dont need to haul around clients. We also have an Audi A4 s-line so if I need the trunk or back seats there is another car avaialble.

Went to look at the porsche today and took it for a ride.
Love the alcantera interior. The alcantera steering steering wheel is very cool. Car handles amazing which was expected. This one has the PDK and I was disapointed it didnt blip the throttle on down shifts like the DCT on the //M3. I was definitely not overwhelmed with the power of the car. It picks up when you wind it out and have it in sport plus mode, but Im used to the 555 HP and all the low end torque on my X5M. The X5M really throws you back in your seat. I sat in the parking lot looking at my truck and the porsche side by side but couldnt make a deciscion so I left. I think the dealership will call me in 3 days and make the deal even more aggresive, then I might have to jump at it.

It really is an apples to oranges comparison, but thanks for all the opinions- thats what makes these forums great.
