every now and then, perhaps once every few hours, I get three beeps... no lights, no codes, no warnings, no indicators.
is the car just lonely, wanting attention, hedonistic perhaps?

Active cruise control can do that if it detects a possible collision ahead. Sweeping turns on the freeway with other cars can make it give false collisions detection beeps too. Is your cruise control on when it beeps?

No, not associated with cruise control.
Not a proximity warning of other traffic either.
Can happen at any speed, often when you are the only car on the road, or casually driving thru the neighborhood.

you can have problem with anti theft alarm, you can disable it to test it.
