Option/Packages Questions
Hello gents (and ladies?)...
I've been pretty active in the community for a couple of years now. Currently I have an '03 Dinan3 ZHP sedan, and my wife is driving a '14 328d sedan. Love the vehicles, and the time has come to locate and acquire our 5th BMW. I had an '04 ZHP sedan but lost it in an accident, and we traded a '12 X3 35i M-Sport for the 328d... We are currently out of town on our first family trip (2 small children) and after packing the 328d for the trip to the airport, we realized it is NOT going to work. So, need to trade out and get into what we should've gotten to begin with, an X5. The F15 doesn't really do it for me, and the pricing for the new vehicles is insane, so I'm on the hunt for the perfect E70. That being said, I've been searching and reading and trying to make some determinations... First things, I'm pretty settled on this point at an M Sport again. We loved the package in the X3, and want to do the same with an X5. Anyway, a few questions below that I'd love some help on... 1. M Performance Package (S767A)- Only available on 2013?? Only available with Adaptive Drive? Can anyone verify what the "Sport" button actually does? Is the silver trimmed brake pedal a signal of the M Perf. Package?? 2. Paddle shifters- Only available in 2013? All M Sports, but not necessarily in conjunction with Performance Package? 3. Active/Ventilated Front Seats- Are these the 20 way seats? The ones with the wider thigh extensions? Worth it? 4. Soft Close Doors- Years available? In conjunction with other options? Worth it? 5. Lane Departure Warning- Year available?? Ok, this post is way too long... I'll stop here... Thanks in advance for any help. In a perfect world, I'd like to find a '13 50i M Sport in Alpine White or Deep Sea Blue with Cinnamon interior, M Perf Pack, 4 way climate, heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, soft close doors, lane departure. Does this combo exist??

Hey Jon - we don't know each other but I've seen you're car on ZHPmafia (I have an '05 ZHP sedan). I've been on the hunt for 'the perfect E70' just like you - been looking since February and still haven't found the right one. I too have a specific configuration I'm looking for and these cars (especially the xDrive 50i's) are just not as plentiful as our E46's, even with ZHP. Especially 2013's…too early for them to start coming off lease. There are not many 'package' & 'option' experts on this forum from what I've gathered, so I've pretty much been on my own researching these cars over the past year. I'll try to answer your questions the best I can - don't know all the answers. 1.. -Regarding the M Performance Package, I believe it was only available on 2013 models. That's what I've read anyway. Furthermore, I have run a ton of VINs over the past year where I confirm options/packages and have never seen it on a 2011 or 2012 model (I haven't spent a lick of time looking at pre-LCI's - 2007 - 2010). I'm looking for Alpine White like you and I've only seen this package on a 2 or 3 since my search picked up in February. -Adaptive Drive and M Performance are 2 unique options. They were ordered separately and 1 does not require the other. -Good question on the 'Sport' button. It means the vehicle has 'Adaptive Drive' however you may have seen a recent post where someone stated the 'Sport' button didn't enable Adaptive Drive, but only further tweaked some minor parameters? They ware basically saying if the vehicle has Adaptive Drive, it's always enabled. I don't know if this is true - it seems hard to believe. I know on the 2014's which I've driven, the 'Sport' button does enable the Adaptive Drive (which has a new name on the F15) and you can't absolutely feel the difference. -Pedals - yes, M Sports have the unique pedals 2 - Great question on the shift paddles - one I had as well. Through research, the paddles became available on late 2012 models equipped with either the Sport Activity Package or the M Sport Package. Late 2012 models being November 2011 builds and later (though I did see a 2012 built on 10/21/2011 that had the paddles). So all 2013's with either Sport or M Sport would have the paddles, and late 2012 models (this excludes the X5M - I believe they all have paddles regardless of year?). 3 - not sure on the # of adjustments, but 20 sounds correct. Keep in mind some X5's have just the Comfort Seats, which is different from the 'Active Ventilated Seat Package' - that includes the comfort features (massaging) and the ventilation. If you search the forum, you'll get different perspectives. Some say they wouldn't live w/o the ventilation while others will say they can barely tell a difference when they're on (many say the same thing about 'Adaptive Drive' as well). I will say, most of them I see that have the ventilated seats are in FL where you live. And it seems a lot of FL X5's have the beige interior. 4 - another good question, not 100% sure on the answer. In running VINs I have only seen the soft close doors on 2013's. Never seen them on 2011 or 2012 models. I only run VINs on Sport and M Sport models and I see them pretty frequently, but I do see some w/o this feature, so it appears to be an option for 2013 only - definitely not standard equipment. I've seen/used these on an M5 at my local dealer - they are pretty cool but nothing you couldn't live w/o, IMO. 5 - Lane Departure…seen these on 2012's for sure, but not positive what year they became available. I will say it's a very rare option. Speaking of rare options, I would say the following are very hard to come by on 2012 & 2013 models (Adaptive Drive was standard on 2011 M Sports)…at least in my searches - -lane departure warning (very rare) -active cruise control (very rare) -leather dashboard (very rare) -3rd row seat -rear seat entertainment -adaptive drive to a lessor extent… -active steering The configuration you're after will come up, it's just a matter of when…next week? Next year? If you eliminate the lane departure warning you'll have a lot better luck, but even then it could be awhile. You'll see lots of M Sports with black or beige interior, but they likely won't have the M Performance Package or Lane Departure warning - those are really hard to find. If you want rear heated seats on a 2012 or 2013, you need to find one with the Cold Weather Package (not very common in FL!)- rear heated seats were not a stand alone option in these years. Worth noting, and not sure it's a big deal in FL, but the cold weather package includes a heated steering wheel. On M Sports, which have the M steering wheel, I've noticed the only year you get a heated steering wheel on the M Sports in 2013. 2011 and 2012 M Sports with Cold Weather do not get the heated steering wheel (unless it was introduced with a certain build month for 2012's, like the paddle shifters mentioned above, but I've never seen a 2012 M Sport with a heated steering wheel). Good luck -Jeff Edit - you see this one? The ad doesn't reveal much, that's why I run the VINs through a decoder - http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...69582215&Log=0 2013 xDrive 50i Alpine White/Black leather/Burl walnut trim M Sport Package Performance Package (S767A) Premium Package Cold Weather Package (rear heated seats, heated steering wheel, headlight washers, etc.) Adaptive Drive Soft close automatic doors Comfort seats (still a nice feature, even though this one doesn't have ventilation) 4 way climate (pretty common on most X5's) Premium Sound Package (a must IMO) BMW Apps/smartphone integration (surprising not that common despite only being a $150 option new) Pretty close to what you're looking for. Believe me, I've found so many that come close, but it's hard to find every option you want…at least it has been for me. Last edited by jiggz; 07-15-2014 at 01:08 AM.. |

Hey Jon, from the sounds of it, you are planning to get a fairly loaded car and with your specifics. I must say, for the same price or a little more, you should get a X5M and don't look back, forget about the 50i with sport package. The M is much more impressive and with a tune it goes ballistic

I would likely agree, but most of the Ms I'm finding in my area are $70K plus, way out of the range. I'm trying to stay at or below $50K. And aside from that, the mileage of the xDrive vehicles is low enough as it is, adding the M on top of it absolutely kills any chance at driving past a gas station without having to stop.

Update to my earlier post - looks like soft-close automatic doors did come on some 2012's, perhaps later builds only?

Ok, so a little updating... I've been running every VIN I can find for currently FS vehicles that fit what we want. That being said, they've all been M Sport models, between MY 2011-2013. I've created an Excel spreadsheet that shows all of the really desirable options I'd like to locate and which vehicles have which. I created this spreadsheet as a sort of rating system for all of the possible vehicles I'm looking at. That being said...
1. I have not found one single vehicle with Lane Departure Warning 2. I too have a 2012 model with Soft Close Doors 3. For Adaptive Drive, I've found it all the way up to 2013 Here is a list of options I've been taking note of on different vehicles. If nothing else, it should provide as a good reference to the option codes for others... To be honest, I can't be 100% sure on the option code for Lane Departure, the code I have listed is from a 5 series vehicle, but I believe it is the same...Corrected: Code is S5ADA Heck, the Performance Package code I listed is the same code as what is on my 2003 330i with Performance Package... S248A Steering Wheel Heater S2VAA Adaptive Drive S323A Soft Close Doors P337A M Sport Package S451A Active Drivers Seat S453A Ventilated Seats S456A Multi Contour Seats S494A Heated Front Seats S496A Heated Rear Seats S4NBA 4 way climate S5ADA Lane Departure S5DKA Side View Cameras S610A Head Up Display S767A Performance Package

Good research! If you want all those packages/options, you'll need a 2013 (to get M Performance and Heated Steering Wheel). Will be hard to find a 2013 M Sport with most of those packages/options for 50K, but I wish you luck! It may not matter to you, but if you want the LED coronas you will need a 2012 or 2013. The only 2011's to get the LED coronas were later build x35d models (March 2011 and later). There are many aftermarket bulb options, but nothing on the market that will duplicate the OEM LED coronas on the 2012's. Lots of threads on this topic Here's some xDrive50i's with lane departure warning - S5ADA - SPURVERLASSENSWARNUNG (Lane departure warning) 5UXZV8C51DL899050 - 2013 5UXZV8C50CL423967 - 2012 5UXZV8C58CL423604 - 2012 5UXZV8C55CL422846 - 2012 5UXZV8C58BL419048 - 2011* *not sure I've ever seen an X5 this heavily optioned. The only items I can think of it's missing are M Sport and the optional 20's. -Sport Package -Premium Package -Technology Package -Cold Weather Package -Rear Heated Seats (standalone option for 2011) -Active Steering -Adaptive Drive -Comfort Access (standalone option for 2011) -Leather Dashboard -Lane Departure Warning -Active Cruise Control - very rare! SS5DFA - AKTIVE.GESCHW.REG.+STOP&GO FUNKT. (Active cruise control+Stop&Go function) -Active Ventilated Seat Package -3rd Row Seats -Premium Sound Package -4 Zone Climate Control -HUD (I'm pretty sure this was a standalone option in 2011? Not part of any package that I'm aware of) -Side View Camera (standalone option in 2011) -High beam assistant (I'm pretty sure this was a standalone option in 2011? Not part of any package that I'm aware of) -Rear DVD entertainment system Combox - I grabbed this from another thread - -Web Browser -Bluetooth Audio -Album Art Covers -BMW Apps (Facebook, Twitter, Web Radio, Pandora) -BMW Plugin -Video Playback |

Damn, that is a LOADED 2011... And thanks for the correction on the Lane Departure option code... My initial post is updated...
So, all of those vehicles, are they for sale?? And if so where?? Specifically, the ones I listed below... Curious where these are located?? 5UXZV8C50CL423967 - 2012 5UXZV8C55CL422846 - 2012 5UXZV8C58BL419048 - 2011 I realize why I didn't see them initially though. I have been only searching for white and blue models. Specifically, we having always been ONLY white vehicle purchasers, but we are considering the Deep Sea Blue Metallic, and I've even got a Carbon Black vehicle on the list. But, absolutely no black according to my wife. As for the non M-Sport vehicles, well, I've been only looking at those with M Sport... But, as luck would have it, my search may be changing greatly. I'm currently on my 6th day in the hospital, so until I know what sort of bills I'm left with, there will no purchasing of ANY X5s... Sucks!

Other than the 20's you mentioned, I don't see Active Steering or Active Cruise Control. I'm assuming the diesel's have those as optional equipment, but either way sounds like a nice find |

Thanks man, yeah, I noticed them all white, I just haven't been searching for models without the M Sport package... I really think I want the M Sport, so I'll continue to limit my searching there, as there are plenty to choose from.
Note46- Agreed, a beautifully optioned vehicle, lots of bells and whistles for sure... And that begs the question, was it possible to get a 35d with the M Sport?? Haven't seen any of those, although I haven't really looked...

If I were you, I would keep my eyes opened also for an X5M. With all the options you're talking about, the price for a used vehicle being an X5M or X5 with M Sports shouldn't be too differrent I guess.
The X5M can have everything you listed except 3rd row seating, Lane departure warning and active cruise with stop & go. Here are pretty much every available options on the X5M http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...tions-x5m.html Last edited by gan23; 07-25-2014 at 10:02 AM.. Reason: Typo |

Yeah I'm not looking for an ///M. Like I've mentioned before, the vehicles I've seen are all $75k. I'm trying to stay around $50k.
