X5 30d Vibration at idle through Steering Wheel and Cab
Hi,
I need some advice from you guys, I have a 2013 BMW X5 30d with 47000 km, bought the car about a month ago. At the time of sale I didn't feel nothing wrong with the car and all was working fine. Since I have got used to the car, I have noticed a vibration through the steering wheel when stopped and the car is just idling. This is really annoying me. It is not a massive vibration just a really high frequency shake. Now I have warranty on the car, I have taken it back to the dealership I bought it from and they have sent it to a BMW Dealership to get a diagnostic done. The BMW dealership have informed me that there is nothing wrong with the car. I don't buy it, there is enough of a vibration that it is causing me concern and annoyance. They told me that they have other x5 diesels that also have the same vibration. I understand these cars have dynamic engine mounts that stiffen and soften depending on the rpm range and it seems as though when the rpm drop below 800 rpm the vibration starts. I have also taken it to another BMW specialist garage that have told me to change the mounts on the car. They didn't seem to be too sure this would fix the issue. The vibration can be felt all through the car. If I touch one of the front quarter panels I can feel it. I touch the door trim I can feel it. I am starting to think I am just being too fussy. What feedback do you all have? Has anyone else experienced the same issue? Has anyone had the same issue and resolved it? What was the fix? Is there anything I can check on the engine mounts in terms of vacuum lines or anything I can check for leaks? Is there any air intakes that will affect this? Any help or guidance is appreciated, it is driving me crazy! Dan |

My x5d vibrates a lot. Not enough for me to take it to the dealer though. Can you sit in another and see if it does the same things?

X5 40d vibration
I too have recently noticed increased vibration in the steering wheel and generally in the cabin. Also now sometimes causes intake air filter and acoustic cover to rattle. Engine mounts ??

Have you checked the Harmonic Dampener for signs of cracking or dry rot? What about the engine mounts? Does the vibration change when in gear vs park?
These are diesels so they do vibrated lol. Especially being an I6. We also don’t have electric steering so any vibrations through the drive train will go through the steering wheel too. Most of the time it’s a sign of a failing Harmonic dampener.
