Midnight Blue/ Saddle Combo

The wait is over. I called my CA on Monday, and he utter the words that I wanted to hear... "You want to pick up tomorrow?"

Observations/ Comment:
-I got premium sound and the sound system is sick. Sample: "Tear the Roof off" by Busta Rhymes... The bass was wonderful
-My CA... "I am not going to bring the car up until you get here because everyone is going to want to jump in it." I promised to bring it back so he can see the LEDs @ night. It was the first 2013 that dealership had delivered.
-The Double Spoke 424s are hot
- Sound at Start up... Aggressive
- Controls: Not as intuitive as I would have expected. 5 years between purchase makes a difference. Have to figure out how to add items to Address Book more seamlessly among other things
- Color- extremely unique. I was worried, although "Love_my_X6" gave me confidence with her photos. I LOVE the color. Add the Saddle.. Sick... bananas, what ever superlative you want to use. Most unique color offered (of course!)
- GAS: 81 Bones for my first top up. ~25-30 more than filling up my 328. Also went up to 93 from 89
- Ipod- I probably need the adaptor. I didn't get a chance to play with it. Sound from Ipod sounded better than Bluetooth sound from my Galaxy Nexus Online playlist
- GIECO wanted to up my insurance by 220%. So I switched to 21st Century
- Pick up: Lovely, again nice sound from the exhaust
- AS: I didn't notice the steering too much, so coming from a nimble 3 series, I assume the AS was the cause. The car feels smaller than it is.

I just got the Premium Sound. I can't imagine how loud the Enhanced Premium sound would be.

I order on the 24th of May. I received it on the 24th of July-- so it took 2 months for me. Others have had less time I believe. The color is excellent. Blue, Greenish Blue, Dark Blue.. depending on the light. Exhaust sound great on the 50i, but you generally don't hear the power from inside the car... at least I notice it less.

This car feels & sounds amazing. I am now looking for an excuse to drive somewhere!

BMW Apps is a waste if you don't have an iPhone. i just learned that I need to upgrade my Ipod to take advantage of the features I purchased. I am thinking of buying the Iphone and tethering from my Galaxy Nexus (sounds ridiculous). I would then use my current Ipod @ home or in my 3 series. Frankly I would rather buy the new Galaxy tab. Are other finding the Iphone usage/ integration to be good?

Interesting. I never head of them. The Blind spots are not as bad as I imagine. I have none directly behind me if I use the rear view and the side mirrors. The biggest concern obviously is the car adjacent to you. I am experimenting with moving the side views wider, but the Lanefx seems interesting.

And yeah, my kid (18) taught me about moving my mirrors out and down. No blind spots anywhere, and I cannot drive any other way now. Backup cameras are a must on these beasts tho'.

What do iPhones users think about the integration? I am a Droid for life.. but want to utilize the unlocking, apps etc.

Love my X6... it growls. The combo is definitely unique. So glad I went with my gut this time!

Honestly.. Not the most impressive option in my opinion. It looks cool at night, but the regular Xenons look nice as well. When people look at the car or when you demo it to friends and family, its usually during the day, and the 2K LEDs are more or less an after thought. I'll check in once I have some serious night driving under the cars belt.

The most striking thing to me:
Absolutely has been the Paint color and the Exterior/Interior combo. People have commented most on that.. even random people on the street. Combo is unique... and most people have said that. The sound system has been the second biggest wow factor .. (I like my bass)... and I only have the Premium Sound!

What has surprised me:
Camera for Parking. The guidelines make parking in tight spaces incredibly easy... allowing me to allocate an even amount of space between cars on my right and left side. This is an excellent feature, and I believe there is even more to learn!

How nimble my 328 CI feels when I switch, even thought the steering in tighter. The X6, however, does not feel cumbersome at all. It must be the AS.

Down side:
BMW apps really doesn't work well with old Ipod or Ipads. I am Droid for the near future.. possibly for life, and BMW doesn't cater well to my segment. I will either buy a new Ipod or 3G Iphone and tether Internet so I can utilize the feature.
Coming from a very easy to use Navigation in the 08 3 series, I don't find the Navigation to be very intuitive. Weird that I need to read the manual close to understand fully.
Entertainment not that intuitive. Im having a hard time playing my entire music collection ramdomly while still selecting some songs that I want to hear. The older system was quite simple. I am off to read the Navigation section!
I post some more feedback on the ride as it comes to me.

Ok first off - CONGRATS! I can not believe how good the chrome looks - it has to be the running boards (which your wife will love and need). Love the color (not as cool as Vermillion, but still... ).

There is a glare on the inside of the C-Pillar (back rear corner) that ALWAYS makes me think a car is there. My drive home from the PDC was full of "Oh chit!" when I thought I was turning into a car that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I would love for this beast to have blind spot detection.

YES! I can not believe the press and others like this new iDrive better. It is less intuitive and MUCH harder to use. I never understood why the old one got crap and I do not understand why people think the new one is better. It took me like a month before I figured out how to not get stuck playing the same song over and over again (e.g. when you search by artist, then select the CD then select the song - YOU ARE STUCK THERE). In order to play a full CD, you select the artist then the cd, then go down to play, then select the song. SO NOT INTUITIVE!

PS - have not noticed the lack of grab handles yet?

Frankly Doug.. I was very disappointed that you did not comment yet on my vehicle... given how much you help me in the decision process (smile). Thanks again.. I think the reason I don't notice the Active Steering is because it makes switching from the vert to the X6 seamless. I do like the tightness of the steering on the vert though.

Thanks. Re: the chrome.. now, you understand why I went from the 35 to 50. Maybe we'll have more 50s without Sports package? The Sports package rims are the best... but these are really nice... much better than the 35 IMHO. btw... I did get three colors for the price of 1... (wink).

Besides not finding this directly on my Android device... Here is what I get when I search on the laptop: "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." I have a Motorola Xoom and a Galaxy Nexus. I wonder if it will run on the Logitech revue... doubt it...

I tried to tether from my Android to my Ipod and then run the apps that way. I get fail messages, and this did not work. I was able to unlock my car with BMW Assist on my Ipad. I am not sure if I need a more up-to-date Ipod Touch to make this work? Any thoughts welcome.. If the Android version continues to be stale, I am happy to buy a new Touch.

I finally figured this out.. well playing all my songs randomly. It was not in the manual. Clicking twice to the right (I think this is options for any item on your screen) allowed me to store destination to my address book directly and be able to select the option to play a songs randomly. Not intuitive at all.

The Active Steering is my biggest "wish I had it" (With the Ivory leather, multi-contour #2, and even more power #3)

Without the active steering, it is not as bad as an old non-power steering vehicle, but it is halfway there!!

In all the reviews, I erroneously thought that AS was something that would either A=not make that much difference, or B=was dangerous as it could cause oversteer if not careful etc. Thanks to folks here I learned that it was none of those things. Thanks to my non-AS-X6 I now wish I had it.

Still lovin' the beast though!
