2011 X5 50I Harsh Downshifting from 3rd-2nd-1st gear

Hi everyone,
I just bought a 2011 BMW X5 50i with M pkg which has 51000 miles on it but still has extended warranty to cover. The car downshifts very harsh from 3rd-2nd and also from 2nd-1st in D mode. it happens all the time disregard car is cold or warm. Up shifting is fine and smooth though. I went back to dealership and told them this situation, they send a mechanic out with me and he said it is normal for X5. I insisted them to perform the adaption reset to see if it will go away, so they did. but the issue is still present. I have searched on the internet knowing that many 7 series have the same issue with transmission recall, also some pre LCI X5 46is or 48is with software update. But dont find LCI X5 e70 with this issue. So I just want to ask if anyone knows this is normal for X5. if not, is there anyone had the same issue I have, how did you tell the dealer to fix it if they said it is normal? Is it possible the solenoid went bad that cause this?
I have own a 328I before with similar issue but fixed it with adaption reset from the dealer, I guess this time not so lucky. please help, thanks.

Have them look into the front driveshaft recall.

Downshifting for me got dramatically smoother once this was replaced.

my 2011 5.0i has the same issue. seems to have gotten slightly better with time. a friend with an '11 650 convertible has the same problem, dealer told him it was due to some sort of regenerative motor thingy. let me know what u find out.

fatmatt0116 thanks for the chip in, i will ask the dealer regarding regenerating stuff, but i doubt it will be true since our 2011 cars donesn't have any battery for the regenerating energy to recharge.

Try resetting the transmission.

Press twice the Start button for ON mode (don't start car), then depress the throttle pedal fully until kick down button click is felt, hold for 30 seconds (or longer to be sure), then start car and drive.

n3985, yes i did, the throttle has better response, but the harsh downshifting still presents.

I have a new to me 2009 X5 4.8i and it also has harsh downshifting into first gear. My mechanic looked at it yesterday and found the front bushing were worn which gave it that pronounced "thud". Granted its a lot smoother now but the downshift issue still persists although not always.
Gonna try the transmission reset thingy and if this doesn't work, ask the dealer if they know if the recall on the driveshaft was done.

Why are you downshifting into 1st to begin with? I don't mean to be rude with that question, just genuinely curious. Whenever I'm in manual mode and downshifting towards a red light I downshift until 2nd and then apply a little bit of brake and it's stopped. Going into 1st seems like it will naturally feel jerky unless you're downshifting under 10mph.

Did you ever get this resolved? I just picked up a ‘12 50i and I’m having the same issue with harsh downshifts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
