I'm not a fan of all this plasti dip stuff, but why does everyone "paint" them black? Is that the only color they offer?

That is the only color available at retail stores. Online you can order a bunch of colors though.

In my oppinion its much better to remove the wheel.
6 cans total for all 4 wheels or each?

Friday night project

Did my wheels last night and it looks amazing. I have the chrome wheels and got tired of the look. Let's see how the Plasti Dip performs on chrome.

I used about a can and a half on each wheel. I sprayed with the wheels on but instead of rolling the car back and forth to get every little space, I released the transmission lock, jacked the car up wheel by wheel and spun the wheels as I sprayed. Of course I chocked the wheels while doing that.

Did a light first coat all around, then started doing heavier coats each time with about 6 total coats. I used a fan to speed the drying in between coats.

As a bonus, I also did the kidney grills. Looks amazing! Next are the badges and the two lower mesh grills.

What do you think???

nice job, I'd just de-badge it though, the emblems are a pain in the ass... because if you get wax on them with plastidip on them they look cloudy and like shit.

Can anyone that plasti dipped say anything about how the paint holds up during normal wear and tear, and washing the wheels?

Wheel cleaners will take off the plasti-dip.

Garage List
Just an update: My Plasti-dip coated rims lasted almost a year and so I did a little touch up by smoothing out any scuffs (curbs) and repainted with two quick coats. Looks awesome again and hope to get another year before retouch.

This stuff works great and plasti-dip.com has some great YouTube videos on doing touchups and repairing cuts/scuffs.
