N63 fix

So after all these years is there a solution for N63 engine? Considering purchasing an x5 or x6 with n63.

What do you mean by solution? The majority of problem areas were called out by BMW in the N63 campaign and fixed for free.

Good time to buy, these things have really tanked in value.

What do you mean by 'the problem' ?

Have you read the bulletin on the N63 campaign?

I mean the oil consumption, injectors, timing chain, oil leaks. There is so many horror stories on forums. Seems like CCP didn't really fix the problem?

There is lots of grousing on this forum, and I know the 'horror stories' are not all CCP related. Those that were...I would be careful as to when you read them - before or after the CCP work was done?

I can only speak to my own N63 - I had no issues before the CCP work, and none after.

Oil consumption - these cars guzzle oil. CCP is not going to fix that
Injectors - mine were replaced. But again, I had no issues with them prior
Timing chain - mine was inspected, checked out fine. My SA told me they'd only done 1 timing chain replacement in all the X5's they'd checked.
Oil leaks - mine has never leaked. Is this a widely reported issue?

I don't know if there's any way to confirm, right now, that the CCP will eliminate all future problem related to the parts included in the campaign.

I had the same concerns as you, just bought a 2013 X5 50i w/ 46k miles 2 months ago and it has already been to the dealer multiple times for engine issues. I anticipated all of this early on, so I made sure I bought a CPO and so far not $1 out of pocket for any repairs.

I had an Oil leak a few days after I picked it up. It was in shop for a week as they replaced the drivers ventilated seat fans, some PDC sensors, the AC blower motor resistor and a few others as there were some small faults all over the car.

I got it back working well, then about a week later, I had a Low Oil Pressure / CEL while driving on the freeway. Apparently, both vanos controllers went bad which also caused the Vanos Oil Pump to fail and the Timing Chain and Cam Gears were also damaged. After another 12 days in the shop, the truck is running great now. I threw in some H&R springs and an ESS tune and I could not be happier.

It is amazing to think a 3 year old car that had a $73k sticker for sold for $40k and BMW will still fix everything for another 3 years or 50k miles...

Can't get more truck for the money anywhere IMO... I will be trading it in on an F85 X5M before the CPO expires.

I bought a 2011 in April with the 5.0i. Since have put about 6000 miles on it. It has burned maybe a quart of oil in that time. (Unsure really- oil level is like one block off full)

The drivers thigh bolster was busted when I bought since repaired by me for about $50.

The AC also makes a whine when it turns on been this way since purchased.

Other than that been liking mine; towed a light trailer around couple times as well.

Yeah everyone loves n63 performance but it's very unreliable. People that had CCP done still complain about having the same issues. Obviously if i purchase CPO everything will be taken care of and it's very tempting. My 335d was giving hell past 2 months, back to normal now but I hated constant trips to the dealer. I would go for n63tu but the price tag is still a little high for me.

2011, over 50k miles, only "issue" is burning oil.

You've made a lot of assumptions and generalizations in this thread, especially on a vehicle you don't even own.

Anyhow, not going to comment further on those, but I will tell you BMW's CPO warranty does not cover everything...not even close.

Sorry if I offended you. I guess I shouldn't have said very unreliable, prolly should've said not very reliable and I think almost everybody will agree. Not everybody is having problems but forums are flooded with people sharing their experiences with N63, not many post CCP though.
Obviously I don't own n63, that's why I'm asking if CCP fixed most common issues.

Bought a CPO with 28K miles. has 38K miles now. Campaign was done by dealer prior to purchasing. Recently had the valve seals done. bought extended warranty as well. will not own after warranty expires. blast to drive and no buyers remorse because everything is covered...

I have said this before, but in general, there are three types of users on the forum. 1) X5 and X5 ///M enthusiasts who just like chatting about their cars and their mods, 2) people with problem/lemon N63's that hate them, and 3) people who want to learn a little more about the X5.

These three subsets will make up but a small minority of all X5 owners so you won't hear all the good stories, just the bad. BMW hasn't built up its brand and reputation by selling duds.
