Bulb replacement question

Just wanted to see if anyone has any input on how much it should cost for this repair. I have an 08 x5 and my idrive is telling me that my front left daytime running lamp/parking lamp is out. The angel eye is visibly not coming on durning the day. Soooooo, I got a $330 quote to replace it, at an Indy! I've called 2 BMW dealerships and gotten a quote in the $100s from one and the other dealership said they can pop it in for free and I only purchase the bulb for $40. Is my Indy majorly screwing me on this, or do you think maybe the dealerships aren't factoring something into their quote?? Thanks!

It's a ~$12 bulb from any parts store. Get two, as usually the other one will burn out shortly too.

It is very easy to do. There is a circular plastic cover that needs to be removed from memory. Small fingers are handy but not essential. Easy access via the engine compartment.

It also means that you should never try that Indy again.

May be they thought it involves removing the headlight itself, possibly due to your vague description of the problem?

Just paid $78 at my stealership for the same exact thing and when I got the bill was really pissed cuz I thought it was only a bulb and didn't think I was going to be taken for $80. I looked at the invoice and the bulb was $42, the rest was labor. So if I was you, I would buy the bulb and put it in myself. Good luck !
