Updating the e70 interior.....

Well just was thinking about updating the interior a bit as its getting long in the tooth, and came across a few pics showing the NBT EVO upgrade and the steering wheel from the f15 and the shifter from the newer cars..... They sell adapters that make it all work so no lost functionality, in fact you can gain some. I like the white numbers vs the classic orange.

What y'all think ? Yay or nay ? Anything I'm missing ?

I love the steering wheel, but how would it work on an E70.

I also priced out the NBT EVO retrofit. A nice addition but I don't see spending $2K for the functionality. I might change my mind sometime down the road, but not now.

$2k would most likely just cover electronics, adapters, harnesses. The wheel and shifter would probably cost you another $1-2k since you would have to buy a compatible airbag/cover as well.

I was going to update the wheel to the new style while upgrading to paddles but having all the cruise control buttons on the left not functional was a deal breaker. Although they would still be functional on the steering column..

Heres an old thread with more in-depth coverage of what you would be getting yourself into. It's not a straight forward swap by any means. It's a huge task just getting the hardware installed, another will be to code it properly.

As far as the white back lighting that is a custom job - remove / solder new SMD LED's to the PCB's

Just piked it up from bimmer retrofit for $1700 dollars, not to bad for all a complete kit.

They have a lot of the issues worked out so its not as big of a job as it used to be. You definitely don't need to remove the interior.

The steering wheel has a module you can buy, so it's 100% functional with the e70, you can get it from one of the retro fitters from the web. Might be car systems I think.

The wheels are all over eBay for 375 and up. With the airbag cover costing under a hundred. Have seen some for 450 with airbag. Just look up f10 steering wheel and theirs more of them than any e70 wheel lol ! Their are tons!!!

So was looking at around 2500 to 3000 for everything.

From what I understand their have been some advancements in the modules and have fixed a lot of issues that the earlier ones had. That's the problem theirs new updated stuff coming out all the time. The retrofits keep getting better and more seamless in their execution.

If you have a link to the adapter for the cruise controls I would appreciate it.

Here is where they sell the adapter, it's a brand new one, I was told that their working on a way to bridge the controls from the stalk to the steering wheel, but have no idea of when, either way not bad, you can even get the vibration motor to work when you turn on the heated wheel option, one vibration means on two means off if I remember because theirs no led.

Still not a bad deal considering how nice the wheel is, And it will make scrolling trough the albums a lot easier.

Looks like they also can retrofit night vision and lane departure. Hmmmmm so many options!

You've got a special type of addiction bagged, looks amazing! NBT would really finish your ride off nicely, but I'm sure you will find 10+ more things to mod

the E70 interior is classic, imo. The F15 is a failure in all aspects

looks good bro
I replaced my M steering wheel with M Performance (alcantara with blue line on the top) about a year ago never looked back
Got some toys from bimmertech last year (front camera and smart phone sync) also was talking to Bimmer Retrofit about getting EVO from them but never pooled the trigger, price was too high for what I wanted!
I also like the new shifter

Is that the f10 wheel ? I heard the spline of the new f15 wheel won't fit our columns.

I honestly enjoy the layout of my interior. I have a 13 m sport with sat so I have the paddles. The only thing I would change is maybe wrap the wood grain with black piano finish type 3M? The nice thick and well placed thumb notches on the steering whee were the 1st thing I noticed during the test drive. I think the orange glow is iconic for bmw. I wouldn't part with mine.

I could see replacing my wife's 3.0si steering wheel with an E70 M steering wheel so it would look similar but be nice and comfy. The NBT Evo I could definately do for functionality but still concerned about the look. I actually think that I'm going to start looking for upgrades for the X5M and then put the old parts in my Wife's 3.0si. Is that messed up?

Lol!

Was looking and found the new ceramic touch control !

That will defiantly be on the short list! My i3 pad already shows signs of polishing from its Origanal matte finish.

The ceramic one will never show signs of wear, hey by the way, I notice on some X5M's they have a metallic ring around the stereo, was that an OEM thing or an aftermarket thing?

The metallic ring around the stereo indicates that it has the premium sound option (I think that's what it's called at least)

Curious, would you think swamping out the updated shifter knob is a simple unplug, swamp and plug situation?

This...

I've been looking into retrofitting the F85 shifter into my X5M and can tell the F15/F85 have the same wiring ( +/- ) a few wires ... so whatever steps are taking for the F15 retrofit are likely the same minus some coding differences.

I can tell you the F85 is not plug and play.

Okay thanks for your feedback, I noticed it wasn't stated but figured I'd ask anyways and hope to have received an answer
