5 Series GT White daytime driving lights

Hello everybody,

This is my first post.

I have been lurking for a little while and I keep seeing discussions around changing to white daytime driving lights, but with nobody getting the OEM look for day and night time running.

I keep seeing the 5 Series Gran Turismo on the road with its white day time driving lights. Has anybody tried to use the bulbs from the GT in their X6 headlights?

I have put a query in with my local BMW dealer who has submitted a query to BMW themselves.

IMHO the white lights look 1,000,000 times better than the yellow ones.

Yes there are a few topics on this and i completely agree.

I am a little peeved that they have just face lifted the X5 with the new lights and not the brand new X6 40d that i've ordered.

I just cant see BMW re-designing the X5 headlight for the face lift, although I may be wrong.

The dealer I spoke to today must think its possible to complete the bulb swap or else he wouldn't have sent the request to BMW UK.

Why don't one of the wealthy X6 M owners go and buy the bulb and see if it works?

All the threads I have found are talking about after market bulbs. I have not see one set that looks OEM. Looks like I may have to take the plunge myself!

what's the part number?

also, the 5GT AE's are LED correct, while the x5 and x6 AE's are halogen H8 bulbs. Unless the bulbs have an internal resistor you will most likely get an error code if you just plug in the 5 GT bulbs..could be wrong tho...good luck..

Thanks for that. I will wait to see what the dealer comes back to me with. BMW are missing a trick if they don't offer a retrofit pack!

Not had an update yet, the car will go in for the 5.0i exhaust retrofit next week, hopefully. I am trying to get them to try it.

Dealer Bullsh1t

After waiting what seems an age on the question I put to my BMW dealer.

"Can the yellow bulb that light the daytime daytime lights or Halo rings be swapped for the white bulb thats in the new 3 series, 5 series GT and facelift X5 for that OEM look?"

The dealer told me that the bulbs are identical and it is the rings that are coloured?!?!?

I don't know where to go with this now, can anybody help or can they check with their dealer?

I think is BS because, there are plenty of super-white H8 in the aftermarket and they give a all white angel eyes look, if the rings where colored, had never reached the white look, so for me the rings will get the light that the bulb gives.....IMO

I did explain this to him but it fell on deaf ears, he just didn't want to listen.

Its a shame as I have just had the best experience with the BMW bodyshop fitting the 5.0i exhaust then to be fed crap by the parts dept ruined the experience a bit.

IMHO the white daytime rings totally change the look of the car and I cant understand why nobody hasn't looked into this already. Am I the only one who wants the ultra bright white daytime look?

I would love to see the pics in daylight when you have them fitted. I keep reading that the white rings look good at night but are dim in the daylight.

Which ones have you chosen? How much are you paying? Who's fitting them?

I got some of the PIAA ones, I've seen them slated on here before but I've also seen them praised too so I thought I'd give them a try myself, they were £180. I'll be fitting them once I get home, its a bit fidly but thats just down to where the bulbs are.

I had the white H8 GP Thunder bulbs in for a while too but they didn't last long, passenger side blew up taking the back of the light off with it after less than a week, decidedly unimpressed.

Did you fit the PIAA bulbs? Any pics (in sunlight)?

As a driver looking out the windshield, why do you care what the lights look like? You will never see them.

I got a call from my dealer today and he told me that 5 Series GT uses another type of bulb, is not an H8 type like the one used on all X6's ......
