Just got new 2011 X6 Blk/Blk - OMG!

I just got the car and it is awesome with everything except hud and rear heated seats.

However - I need snows!

I know it's late in the game, but anyone have ideas other than tire rack as it is impossible to find a reasonable wheels.

Thanks.

Chad

Congrats!

As for the wheels I have used the rack and my dealer ($$$) I have heard of but can't vouch for http://shop.wheelsrims.net/ - the prices seem too low... eg $197.95 for style 212 19"

Congrats!

I got rims from Tischer BMW and tires from Discount Tire Direct http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do You can also get a set of winter 19" tires and wheels for your X6 from BMW. They come with Style 232's and I think Bridgestone M&S tires.

Winter wheels / tires

I spent a ton of time reading posts about winter tire/wheel options. Summary of what I learned is below. I went with a used set from an X6 50i.

Most expensive ~$3.5K+
New BMW 19" OEM rims, tires, and TPMS

Moderately expensive ~$2K, but difficult to find
Used BMW 19" OEM rims with tires, and TPMS
- Ideally, find someone who replaced their 19" OEMs after a couple hundred miles. Check the forums and Craigslist in the high volume BMW markets (NJ, NY, CA, etc.)
- You'll likely find a set with all-season tires. If you need winter tires, you'll need to spend another $600+
- Beware, I've heard that the 2010 TPMS do not work with 2011 X6's.

The OEM options will have the right hub sizes and offsets without any adapters or spacers. The X6 has different size hubs front axle versus rear axle. And the OEM wheels (non-staggered) have different offsets front versus back.

Least expensive ~$1.5K+
Non-OEM with winter tires such as a Tire rack winter setup. I believe they provide adaptors for the hubs, but not spacers to push the wheels out.

If you do go the BMW rep path (eg, eBay), I've seen complaints about some inexpensive replica wheels being difficult to balance.

I just picked up a set of 18" non OEM wheels from Tirerack with the Bridgestone Blizzak RFT. The total cost including shipping and duties to Canada was $2122 US. A lot cheaper than the OEM winters set they offered at the dealers.

I paid about $3300 for a set of Style 232's OEM wheels, Michelin Alpin HPs (255/50/19), TMP sensors and mounting and balancing.

Well, i ordered a set of closeoutswheels with rings in 19" with Michelin Alipine's with TPMS from Tirerack. The whoel set only cost around 2k.

I hope this works as they come in next week. I figured for 159.00 per wheel if they last one winter in Boston area i am happy as they are probably going to get trashed.

The X-drive on the 19 inch Stockers with stock A/S tires. I made it through the worst of the Blizzard in NYC. I drove to work at 3am on Monday morning. And Made it down countless sloppy unplowed roads. We had 20+ inches of snow in Brooklyn and 20 in manhattan. I can't say enough about this cars ability in the snow.

Has anyone tried putting on Pirelli Scorpions on the original 20 OEM wheels? I am getting close to ordering x6 5.0 with the 20s and am wondering if I can skip buying a separate set of wheels and just get the 20 winter tires that I can mount in the winter at a local dealership. Thanks.

What are the specs on your rims and what tire size are you using, i would love to use an 18" rim, with more meat.

The rims are Moda EB1, 18 X 8 with 35 offset. The tries are Bridgestone Blizzak LM 60 RFT 255/55R18.
