Downpipes and JB tune

Just ordered a set of the AR Design hi-flo downpipes (w/race cats)
Also have the JB stage 1 tune (stage 2 is now available. I'll prob order that too)

I'm gonna have them both installed at Auto Couture in NJ in 2 weeks, along with some cosmetic mods: black powder coat rims and lower grills.

I opted to go with the downpipes first, rather then spend the same money on a exhaust with limited power gains.

I'm interested in seeing the gains in performance and sound with these two mods. I will update and post pictures when it is installed.

Next up will be… JB stage 2, exhaust mod, and H&R or Kw lowing springs (maybe)

I'm very open to any suggestions and experiences!

Only mod so far in the pic is black gloss grill and all black and white BMW emblems. I love the wide 20 inch stock wheels and tires!

You can install the Stg 1 tune in about 5 minutes. Why pay? It's two plugs.

Finished

Installed:
AR downpipes
JB Stage 1 Tune

Glossed black wheels
Porsche Red Calipers
MTEC LED Angel Eyes

Couldn't be happier. You can really hear the turbo's now, the exhaust growls and sounds amazing. Dramatic increase in power. You can truly feel it. Trying to get to the track soon and test out my 1/4 mile time.

Shout out to AutoCouture in NJ for a job well done.

Don't bite my head off but why do you up grade the slower version of the car? Down pipes, a tune and such when you can buy an M and go like bat out of hell. Maybe its me and I don't get it but I don't understand the concept. If you did it for the sound it makes sense but stage 1 and 2 to speed the car up does not. A lot of BMW owners do it with the other cars too 335i for example, when they make a M3 for that purpose. I had a 4.8 and wanted to go faster, I didn't add a supercharger instead I traded up. I'm just asking for your mind set. sorry if I offended you

Hey Nicky how hard were the downpipes to install? Do you have a link to the product? The BMS parts will not fit the X6 N54 so I need other options...

Yeah, it's you. Ask the tens of thousands of 135/335/535 owners who are tuned. My tuned 335i outran E93 M3s in the quarter. I would have lost around the track but I don't go to curvy tracks.

The N63 (50i) and S63 (M) engines are not that much different. The 50i with a stage 2 BMS tune is dynoing at 450+ whp Do the math. With a 15% drive train loss, that's 530 horsepower with no other mods. For under $700.

It is very easy to find big gains on a turbo motor using affordable ECU tunes. Your 4.8 was normally aspirated. You would have had to spend thousands to supercharge it.

So yeah, it's you.

Just curious Why did you go with 50i vs the x6m, is there a large difference in price? You obviously wanted a fast suv so why not just go all out and get the M? Test drive anything else? If you have just a 15% loss in the power train I wanna switch transmissions with you!!!

How are the catted DPs? Are they really loud, had catless took them out in a weekend, too smelly and wayyyy to loud with the stock exhaust mod. Loved the power, you could feel the added tourque but way loud (sounded like a racing car, not a great thing in a family dd driver)

Well then use 20%. You are arguing against your own position. That would put me at 562HP which is doubtful.

I didn't get the M for financial reasons. I test drove two and then a 2013 50i that had the 450HP engine and figured the difference wasn't worth it, for me. You may feel different.

how about the catted aftermarket DPs, more power? louder? took off my non catted because It was crazy loud but it did make noticeable more power with the tune
