Help Needed: F01 750iLx or X5 5.0 @2011-2012 year

Hi guys,
(i have also posted this in the 7 series forum as well)
i have had pretty much every series car including the X5 2008 4.8 and i am in the Dilema here again.

time to buy wifey a new car and soon to be a daddy as well.

so here is my questions so please any comments would be great!!!

both options cars i can find for approximately under 55k out the door including taxes in California.

Option 1:
White 750iLxdrive M-sport package

Option 2:
White X5 5.0 Mpackage or X5M

reason why I cant choose is becuase i dont know if 750iL will have enough space for:
car seat
stroller
baby changing clothes, maybe our clothes and like 2 day trips around here.

Please throw out your thoughts as there is no right or wrong answer.

time to purchase should be in January-Martch 2015 so I still have time to decide....


also wanted to add that i would be adding an edtended warrantee to either car to make sure it lasts to 2016-2017

Congratulations on upcoming parenthood

I don't know a lick about the 750 but I have experience with the X5 and kids. I'm sure everyone's interpretation of ample/usable space is different, but the X5 IMO does not offer much cargo space. Love the vehicle but newborns/toddlers require a lot of gear, especially if you're going away for the weekend.

My kids are a bit older now (7 & 9) and therefore don't require any extra gear/clothes....we didn't have the X5 when they were young so it wasn't an issue for us...I'm sure you could pull it off but you may have to pack carefully!

I think about strollers, maybe a pack 'n play, maybe some bigger toys like an exersaucer or activity table - sure you don't have to bring those for a weekend trip or dinner at a friend/relatives, but I'm telling you from experience, the more toys and activities your baby/toddler has to keep them entertained, the happier they'll be. And when Jr. is happy, mom and dad are happy...and might be able to relax, if only momentarily

In terms of a car seat, the back seat is plenty big and you shouldn't need to worry about lack of room, even with a rear facing seat.

Technically, everything you listed will fit in an X1, X3, 1 series, 3 series, etc. Nothing you've mentioned would necessitate a 7 or X5.

Now if you're talking to full sized luggage items, and a BOB stroller, then we're in X5 territory. Strollers comes in so many different sizes, and fold in different ways.

So that said, either is fine, get what will make your wife happy. That's usually the right answer

Congrats on the upcoming parenthood. My first one was born 11 days ago, so I was/am in a very similar situation. I have an X5 and a 135i, but the 135i needs to go. I went and test drove the 5-series and the 7-series. The 5 is a bit more sporty, the 7 was probably the smoothest and quietest vehicle I've ever driven. My kid would probably sleep through a tornado in the back of that thing. Felt very safe and roomy, but I think it'll be far too large for my wife to drive. Which is why I'm thinking either an A6 or a 5-series.

You cant compare to x5, its rough, sturdy .. unless ure planning offroading trips theres no point even comparing the two, I had to buy one coz my wife doesnt feel safe in cars (yeah), and secondly we get inclement weather here suvs tend to handle snow better

X5. You and/or your wife are going to be getting stuff in and out of that trunk A LOT. Regardless of how much cargo room the X5 actually has, the convenience factor alone is going to tilt you to the X5.

The only thing the iL has going for it, given your immediate needs, is the larger back door/back leg room. Once you get the pumpkin seat in you'll find you can only go back so far. This problem gets bigger if you go to a Britax or something similar (at 1.5-2 years) and keep it rear facing.

I've never owned a 7 series but I've got an E60 M5 and an X5, it was a bit of a struggle with the M5 with our luggage and stroller so we just threw the luggage in the rear seat footwell or the baby bag and the stroller went in the boot so we managed. As for the X5 I never found a problem with getting stuff in the boot, everything goes in nicely if you just organize it a bit.

I would quite happily say the X5 is the better car for baby stuff. It's the small things that just make it easier to live with, the split tailgate just makes it easy to slide things in and out especially heavier things (On the flip side it's a little harder to get them in) whereas the M5 has a lip so it can be hard to get the stroller out dependant upon the model.
The car is higher you're not constantly bending over to reach for the baby than you would in the 7 series, and trust me the amount of damn tries it takes for the bloody seatbelt to clip in the doors open wider too on the X5 but that may vary as it is the extended wheel base 7 series.
The X5 could probably hold up better in an accident (It's a revolting thought but you never know what could happen) the X5 being higher up and generally being, more car would hold up better in a crash, the 7 series would probably do well but on a side impact I'd much rather be in the X5, having said that I wouldn't want to be in the 3rd row of the X5 if a crash were to occur but it's usually just the four of us.

In short I must say the X5 would be the better option but you would be able to survive with the 7 series.

IMO the X5M would be overkill unless you want loads of power, I have a 35D and that thing is plenty quick, it's no M5 but it does go. Depending on how many kids your planning on having I would suggest the 3rd row even if you've only got 2 kids they want to bring their friends round or you need to drop their "gang" off to football, it wasn't a necessity at the time when I bought mine but it has come useful.

I'm not hating on the 7 series in anyway, it's miles more luxurious and technologically advanced but if you have a baby your far better off with the X5

I put the Keyfit 30 in the middle on the rear seat and it gives the front passengers all the room they need to move their seat back...

thank you guys!!! i think i am leaning towards the X5 5.0 now.... maybe to lease in or around february or take over a lease, so i can buy later.

The 50i is actually a 4.4L -

'Mocha' interior is available on the new F15 X5 (2014+) - the 2011 & 2012 50i's you mention in your thread title came with either Black, Tobacco, Cinnamon, Beige, or Oyster. Most White X5's will have Black or Beige....the other interiors are far less common, regardless of exterior color. Tobacco or Cinnamon would be closest to Mocha.

I have a White/Cinnamon M Sport and it look a lifetime to find. Start searching now!
