future x5m purchase
hey guys. new to the forum. previous vehicle was a 2008 f350 harley. i went through the whole mod phase. had it laying down 830/1350 on the dyno. anyways, time to move on. this brings me to my next purchase. im thinking of a 2010 x5m. i have one im looking at on craigslist through a dealership.
http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/ctd/5356624293.html vin- 5ymgy0c56alk25948 pros- decent price asking 47k down to 43k CAD i dig this color combo has most options available i believe low km's (56k) 1 owner new battery new rear tires cons- no warranty 1 minor claim on the rear bumper (1k) potential issues for a 6 year old vehicle help me decide guys! im ware of the injector issue but realistically what are the chances of that happening or does it happen to every single s63 motor? cheers |

Aside from everything else inherent in an X5M mechanically (search this forum), pull a Carfax. While the report may have items not of consequence to you, they may negatively impact future sellability. Good luck.

dealer sent me a carproof. nothing other than that rear bumper accident back in 2010. clean title. but a carproof doesn't provide info like warranty claims or anything. i'll dig deeper.

Carproof doesn't sound like a Carfax, which is what any dealer will pull when they look at your car.

That would be very prudent. Unfortunately at times like this, despite the excitement, you need to think ahead, too. For the record, Carfax is a huge scam and a horrible organization. Unfortunately, it is the go-to reference, so you need to be careful. They can report negative information at any time with impunity, and it stays with the car.

This may not be relevant to you but my '13 X5M has given me no issues. I think it's a matter of hit-or-miss with the injectors. Your prospect looks like it has good potential, low mileage is always a real plus. What would be nice is if you could somehow research the BMW service history, I don't if anyone else on the forum has experience with this and could chime in?
If you're really nervous, investigate a 3rd party warranty like Route 66 or Carmax and factor that into the overall price, there are plenty of threads on this topic. Just search for "warranty" and they'll come up. I personally have no reason to say don't buy an X5M. I love my truck. Sure there's some things I wish were different, but that's more preference than necessity. Just my .02 |

The problem is the car isn't for sale at a bmw dealership. It's at a jag/range dealership. I feel like since I'm not buying the vehicle directly from bmw they won't help me. But I'll call them tmr and see.

I have an almost identical car as the one you're looking at except I have the leather package which imo, is a must have.
I bought mine a month ago with $39k miles, 21" $3500 BMW wheels with run flats and the stock 20's had virtually new snow tires. Truck was CLEAN, one owner, well documented truck. Paid $43k. I wouldnt spend more than $40k for the one here. Not sure the price difference in Canada vs. america but thats a lot more expensive to me for what you're getting.

the one you are referring to (VIN: 5ymgy0c56alk25948) has LKSW (black extended merino leather). For black, full leather is X3SW or X2SW.
I think with extended leather, you don't get leather on the upper door covers and dashboard / glove box? |

But the build sheet says it has option "4M5" which is leather dash. And on the order sheet it says that option is only available with full or perforated merino leather.

Here is a AutoCheck report. Carfax is usually better but treat this as another source

This looks like it has the leather dash but doesn't have the upgraded seats, which imo is the best part. You can tell if it has the full leather by the headrest.
