Combox (Retrofit Kit)...2011 X5 50i

I'm selling the Combox that I purchased from BIMMERTECH in April 2014...it was installed in my 2011 BMW X5 50i...paid $1018.76 for the Combox Media Retrofit and BMW Apps Retrofit together...BIMMERTECH sells the Combox for $663.67 but I'm asking only $500 or best offer for the Combox... You will need to contact BIMMERTECH for programming the Combox in your X5. The BMW Apps Retrofit features genuine factory activation specifically for your vehicle and gives you dashboard access to such BMW Connected and 3rd-party apps. My wife drives the X5 now and she doesn't even care for all the tech stuff so I figured I will just sell the Combox.

BimmerTech

I emailed BIMMERTECH and they told me that this Combox will work in 2009-2011 3 series, 2010-2011 X5 or X6 or 2010 5 series cars with NAV. However, you will have to reactivate BMW Apps for that vehicle.

The Combox Media PnP Retrofit Kit will add the following features to your car:

Bluetooth integration
Bluetooth Audio
Album Art Covers
Office menu
Support for Apple white cable
Internet*
BMW Live*

$500 or best offer

Come on guys...over 150 views to this post and nobody interested? I know there has to be someone out there that would love to have this upgrade...or is $500 a little too much to ask? Well, how about $350 plus shipping cost...

I got a used combox from ebay for $50 few months ago, and I suspect they can be had even cheaper now with the retrofit campaign. Having said that, I'm yet to install mine, simply because the additional functionality it offers is so minuscule it's just not worth the effort.

Yes, I see there are some used Combox's on Ebay for that price but I don't think they're the same as the retrofit Combox's that are made to work on certain models and enable certain features. BimmerTech still has the retrofit Combox's listed on their site for over $600 so there has to be something more to the retrofit Combox's than there is to the OEM Combox's that you can get on Ebay for $50. I'd be better off reinstalling mine in my wife's X5 before I give it away for $50.

Combox is combox, there're 2 or 3 flavors, but all are model independent.

BMW is retiring old cell tech and offers free replacement or $$/credits for current Assist subscribers.

And not to bash BR or any other coding/retrofit vendors, but what they charge you is knowledge/know-how that you could gain yourself, plus convenience and some kind of guarantee. It would take you quite some time to search, read, learn and practice, so it's up to person to decide whether what's their time worth to them. In terms of parts, in your case besides the combox itself I see ~$60 for main harness (which, again, is not necessary, but offers convenience), few bucks for couple of cables and ~$20 for the coding cable.

OK, I didn't know that BMW was doing that for Assist subcribers. My BMW Assist expired over 2 years ago and I didn't bother renewing it because I never actually used it. I also learned that it would not work anymore anyway once I installed the Combox retrofit. The Combox and BMW Apps retrofit did add some cool features that my X5 didn't have but at the end of the day, I never felt like it was worth the $1000 that I spent. Also, you're definitely correct about the vendors charging you for knowledge/know-how, convenience and some kind of guarantee. I'm sure if I was 20 years younger and had more time on my hand, I wouldn't have spent even close to that much. I'm 44 now and a lot more financially stable than I was 20 years ago. However, my time is limited now so sometimes I just have to pay the cost for that knowledge/know-how and convenience.

Does this mean the old style iDrive will run more like the newer iDrive? I may be interested in tackling this to gain these features in mine, I've always liked that the albums display when listening to your apple music
