Which Diagnostic Scanner

Hello

I am looking to buy a Diagnostic Scanner for my 2011 35d. Any recommendations on which model to buy?

Thanks in advance

Good question. I wonder too. I am looking at a BUYBACK X5 and wondering what's inside... I wonder why so many Buybacks? And lots of 2011 X5's with Coolant issues.. or coolant line issues. I have found 2 in the Dallas area. So, kinda nervous about buying it.

I like Carly BMW for Android or Iphone. You'll need the appropriate Carly OBD2 adapter as well.

This is who I use and it's stellar, gives me the readout the dealers use and also lets me shut off problematic parts to help diagnose issues.

Almost like having the dealer in your garage.

You just need the enthusiasts version not the professional. Unless your hardcore and want to code and all that jazz.

Carly BMW is pretty easy to use, only needs your phone and their OBD adapter to do it. There are in-app purchases for things like battery registration or coding. But it's pretty affordable over all, I like that I don't need a laptop!

Yea my garage being my shop I have a laptop always ready to go when the need arises. But the in depth detail I get from mine is useful, depends on what you want to get out of your reader. If your looking for a simple reader to just read a code and turn off the ses light any will do, If your like me and do all your own work instead of the dealer then mine is great. Up to you. Just giving the OP options.

Rheingold - that's the sw that the dealer uses (ISTA/D). Take a gander in the coding forums on how to obtain it. Plus a $20 obd-2 cable from ebay, and you'll be all set. Rheingold has factory service and maintenance instructions for practically everything on every BMW produced since the early 2000s.

Rheingold is the real deal.
Already saved me hundreds in diagnostics fees alone I would have to pay for.
See my thread on how to start here.

so I found it on the internet, and it is not that expensive. I already have a nexiq usb link 2, I wonder if I could interface the two together or not. It doesn't say if this software is rp1210 compatible.

When you guys got this software, what kind of obd2 hookup did you run?

A good (not cheap) K+DCAN USB interface cable to connect to laptop.

I would like a computer based scan tool software, I am under the assumption Rheingold or Bavariantech are the ones to have scan tool wise? Specific for BMW
