My New (to me) X6 50i with a Few Mods - 22" Wheels, H&R Springs, etc.

I picked up a 2012 X6 50i with 2,400 miles on the odometer about 2 weeks ago. I got a great deal on the car, and let the previous owner take the hit with the 1st year of depreciation!

The X6 is loaded with: Sport Package, Premium Package, Technology Package, Cold Weather, Premium Sound, Soft Close Doors, BMW Apps, Multi-Contour Seats, etc., etc.

I didn't take any pics of the interior, but it's Oyster with contrasting Black carpets, doors, etc.

Here are some pics of the car upon delivery, and a few modifications over the past two weeks.

UPON DELIVERY - FULLY STOCK

H&R LOWERING SPRINGS INSTALLED (1.2" DROP FOR THE FRONT)

22" 215 STYLE WHEELS MOUNTED (HYPER BLACK)

ANOTHER SHOT WITH THE 22" WHEELS MOUNTED

WHEELS PRIOR TO MOUNTING

LUX V3 ANGEL EYES INSTALLED, AND LED FOGS INSTALLED....HAD TO REMOVE THE LED FOGS AS THEY WERE TRIGGERING A CODE (DESPITE BEING MARKETED TO BE CODE-FREE!)

I am having 25mm spacers installed on the rear wheels this weekend.

I am probably going to powder coat the wheels a lighter color gray, as the Hyper Black looks cool, but it's a bit flashy considering I use this car for work.

Hopefully you enjoy the pics and my mods so far!

The wheels are aftermarket replicas.

Difficult to find in 22".

It's the kit that includes the 1.2" front lowering springs, not the 2" drop.

I like the amount of drop in the front, but wish it was a bit lower in the rear. I don't have the self leveling package, so I can't adjust the height of the rear with links.

Does anyone know of any LED H11 bulbs that I can use for my fogs that don't throw off an error code?

I really liked the look of the LED H11s I tired, but they kept giving me an error code.

Any advice would be appreciated.

How can you tell if you have the self levelling or not? What packages does it come on as nothing is listed about it on the BMW website.

Also where did you buy your LUX from and how difficult was the install?

I believe if you have adaptive drive, you have the self-leveling read, but I may be mistaken.

I ordered the LUXs directly from LUX. Fast shipping. Quite easy to install, but but you're working in tight spaces. Total install was about 20 mins.

I like the 215's especially in that finish. How is the ride? I live in the NYC area as well as I'm concerned about 22's on the truck. Are those replica's cast or forged?

I drive the X6 into the City on occasions and I'm also concerned with the size of the wheel and the lack of rubber between the wheel and the pot holes!

I went with a 265/35 tire for this reason....to get a bit more sidewall and rubber. I also don't like the rubber band look of ultra low profile tires.

I have to assume these replicas are cast. They are significantly lighter weight than the OEM 19" wheels however.

I have getting the wheels powder coated a slightly lighter shade of gray. They were essentially metallic black, which looks hot, but a bit too aggressive for my daily driver.

Your mods are very tasteful. She's a beaut.

How's the ride vs stock on the lowered springs? Been thinking about doing the same but worried about a hard ride kind of how my old E92 335i with the sport package was.

As you can see, I did my mods in stages, first starting with the lowering springs, followed by the 22" wheels.

The lowering springs made very little difference in ride comfort. There is less body lean and it's a little bouncy in the rear when going over speed bumps, but otherwise the quality of the ride was not really changed at all. It certainly handles better, but it wasn't a huge change. Keep in mind I have the 1.2" kit for the front and I don't have the links in the rear to bring it down very low, so the reduction in height from my suspension mod is quite subtle.

When switching from 19" to the 22" wheels, the ride got a bit harder, but nothing extreme. You feel the expansion joints in the road more on highways and you become very aware to avoid hitting potholes, but otherwise the ride quality is still very acceptable.

Overall I am very happy with the mods and I don't regret them one bit. I was afraid the ride quality would be compromised, but it hasn't.

I have an E60 M5 with a lowered suspension and 21" wheels with 25-series tires, and that gives a pretty stiff and tight ride. It's a totally different car and it's expected that the ride on the M5 with those mods would change the ride quality significantly.

If you're torn about whether or not to do the suspension and wheel mods on the X6 because of the ride quality, it shouldn't be too much of a concern.

Hope this helps.

Those wheels are awesome. Can you tell me where you got them, wheel name and style? Want to put them on my x5 50i.

Also, not post related but I love your garage doors, I am building a house in MD, who is the manufacturer?

Thank you for the help. Although I am a long time bmw owner, new to the site and new to making after market changes.

+1 on where you ordered them.. I like that they are 22" vs the 21 OEMs

Sweet! My '10 50i was my favorite all time vehicle. The exhaust note was amazing. Does the '12 have that same growl? I'm getting chills just thinking about it. Enjoy!
