N55 P2421 help please

Hey guys. Have a 2011 35i n55 at 50k rt66. I keep getting this code
P2421: Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve Stuck Open

I can't seem to find where this vent valve is located. Anyone got any tips?

I have rt66 but it excludes emmisions parts. I'll call them to see if they can cover it. Not sure if it is covered under BMW 8yr 80k emmisions warranty.

Thanks in advance

So rt66 won't cover a tank vent valve because it's an emmisions item which is an exclusion. So I'm gonna attempt to do it my self. Anyone done it before?

Because its emissions related, will BMW cover it? I think some items are covered up 80k miles

I'll call the SA today. In the manual, it seems all they cover after 50k is the cat.

i just ordered it from here, if any one has replaced it, please let me know if you have any instructions.

Hey racermp,

Not sure if you ever figured out your issue with the P2421 code on the N55 but my '11 335i just fell victim to the same problem. I went ahead and replaced the fuel tank breather valve connected to the intake throttle body, reset the code, and two days later it's back. Only thing I can think is perhaps the DMTL pump could be the culprit. I'm at my wits end and you are the ONLY person I can find that's experienced the same issue with the N55.

Did you ever squash the gremlin in yours?

hey, the dealer said DMTL pump. and i heard the pump make a rattling noise after the car was turned off. so i suspect it's true. however the code has not come back on for the last few months. i did install MHD, maybe they cured it lol. no idea but no issues so far.

Haha, thanks for the response. So what you're saying is an MHD flash is a legitimate diagnostic response...good! My wife will love that news haha. More fun than installing a new DMTL pump for sure.

Still dealing with this issue! Flashed to the stock stage 1 tune and reset the code hoping that things were resolved. Tune has been great but the code has returned so I went ahead and forked over for the dmtl pump. Installed, cleared code, and two to three days later (as usual) it returns.

Did you just install the tune or are you downpipe + tune? I'm trying to figure if it's something in a later stage tune that adjusts for this or if I just have an outstanding problem.

Also, any problems with fueling up? My car refuses to take a fuelup properly, constantly cutting off. I'm at my wits end because I can't find anything else on the net.

hey i just did tune. maybe you have a different issue, maybe a bigger vacuum leak than mine. i hear my DMTL pump loud sometimes when i turn off the car but no code has returned yet.

no problems fueling up, altho sometimes it doesn't fuel up to full, it's like almost full.

no mods on the x5. all stock except for tune and k&n inbox filter.

seems like you have a deeper prob than mine. did you get diagnosis from dealer or indy after dmtl change?

That's next. Looking for an Indy shop near me currently. Was trying to avoid the visit but it might be time for a smoke test!

Mine returns intermittently as well. Had to fix my wife's HPFP first so this project has been on hold. Going to try and have it smoke tested this weekend perhaps, or I might take the charcoal canister off and see if it's blocked up.

Any update on this issue? My 2011 335i N55 is throwing this code, and I've changed the fuel tank breather valve and DMTL pump. Code 315A (P2421) comes up when fuel is just below 1/4 tank.

I also have fuel nozzle cut off early when pumping...

Any update insight on this?

I changed my valve but I never changed dmtl. I'm now getting a different code. But I gave up trying to fix it. Maybe a leak somewhere

My issue had been solved awhile ago...turned out to be charcoal canister, associated with nozzle shuts off prematurely when pumping gasoline.

thanks for the update. this makes sense now. having the pump shut off early has been a symptom.
