Torque Question - Oil Change
Can anyone shed some info on torque specs please. Doing an Oil change on the X5M and saw one guide but he indicated 40nm for the torque on Oil Filter and Drain plug.
I looked down on my oil filter and it says 25nm. Wanted to just make sure. Dont want to over torque and cause issues. Been searching on inet and cant find info. Please advise Thanks |

Tighten it until it strips and then back it off a quarter turn. Don't know the answer, but if you're sure it's either 25 or 40 why not leave it in the middle around 32. I typically just hand tighten it until snug.

Oil filters are always hand tightened till snug. When the seal touches it's mating surface, usually just another 1/4-1/2 turn more is all that is needed. Snug.
Drain plugs on the other hand are tightened till my wrist clicks or about a tad more than snug... Oil changes are not of those things when youve done them for decades that you really need to focus in metrics and torque values... Good and tight, not gorilla tight and done |
